Prediction: the incoming regime's declaration of war on cartels will result in targeted assassinations on Mexican soil, cartels will respond with terror on American soil, the US military will be deployed into Mexico, and land will be annexed in an attempt to create a buffer zone. None of it will go according to plan. Demand for drugs will remain. It will be a foreign policy disaster with far reaching domestic repercussions in both countries.

If America survives this election, which I believe we will, we need to return to reality. The country has gone off the rails since the turn of the century at greater speed each year, partially through inertia but primarily through insane levels of income inequality. Our laws are written by men who do not follow them and reported on by corporations owned by plutocrats who benefit from them. Meanwhile, we the people descend into superstition and delusion fed with infotainment and entertainment as powerful as soma by the very same plutocrats. We need to...

Next time an online clown declares Western civilization is under threat, ask if they prefer Haydn or Handel, Ibsen or Wilde, Sargent or Monet, Goethe or Proust. Western civilization isn’t under threat in this election but our constitution is. Vote Democratic to save our republic. If you're truly worried about Western civilization, read a book published before 1970 that isn't The Fountainhead, attend a play that isn't based on a fucking movie, go to local art museums and exhibits, and support your local symphony. If you want to save the republic, vote D.

Whenever American authoritarians mention Victor Orban and Hungary, I think of Jozsef Szajer, Fidesz member and chair of the committee that drafted the new Hungarian constitution which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman. Szajer tried to add outlawing abortion and ...allowing parents to vote on behalf of their underage children (which JD Vance also recommended). Szajer was forced to resign in 2020 for violating Covid restrictions to attend a 25-man orgy in Brussels. Just something to think about when American pols praise Orban & Fidesz.

While Putin is a central hub of the authoritarian network trying to overthrow liberal democracies and their administrative states, he's by no means alone and money was directed to way more people than the right wing clods in yesterday's indictment. The commonality linking all... ...members of this network is not delusions of grandeur (though many have that), hostility to women's rights (though many have that), hostility to gay rights (though many have that) or eliminationist fantasies regarding their ethnic/religious minorities (though many have that)...

It's important people pay attention to Trump's Project 2025 immigration plan. Put aside the economic disaster that will unfold as 11 million people are quickly removed from the agricultural, construction and service industries by national guard troops from a different state... ...than the one in which they're hunting immigrants. They will be processed through concentration camps (ostensibly run by private military companies) before deportation to currently unknown destinations. It's safe to assume that operating at that scale nobody will be seeing a...

Something I've been turning over in my head a lot is that you could fix a lot of America's problems by fully funding public education. We reaped more than half a century of massive benefits from the effort we put into public education after the 1940s through the early 70s. Imagine how many problems you could solve by having a school system where your kids walked or biked to school, were given a nutritious lunch and had mandatory sports or music from the time classes ended until you got off work?

My opinion is that Putin knew the nature and timing of the initial Hamas attack against Israel, which is why he timed the Avdiivka offensive to start within 24 hours of it. Aside from creating refugee flows into Europe to assist his authoritarian allies in their next elections, further fracture civil society in the West and redirect munitions flowing into Ukraine to instead go to Israel, I believe he has another goal. He knew the attack would provoke an IDF invasion of Gaza (which Biden has so far headed off) and that Hezbollah would wait until the IDF

As half-assed as this coup feels, it's been in the works for years. We'll find out there was significant participation by police forces. The main reason it failed(and it will fail) is that they were never able to generate a controlled opposition to wage fake battles in the street and they put a lot of effort into that over the years. There needs to be an investigation into the f*ckery that's been committed against the American people when this is over and a whole lot of people need to be banned from police work.

Thanks for the retweets @pattonoswalt @joshtpm @AshaRangappa_ and @JuddApatow and welcome new followers. I'm not Gen Clark, I'm his son and was only an LT when I left the army. It's important to know this pandemic is merely a consequence of Trump's 1000s of bad decisions... ...of which there will be many more which will weaken our country for decades. People will continue to suffer under his inept leadership, primarily the poor and marginalized, but the pain will extend to all of us. Please help your neighbors, especially the vulnerable. We have...

The founders of our republic laid out 27 reasons for their revolution against King George in the Declaration of Independence. You would be stunned to see how many of them apply to Trump. Know your history. "He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good." Take your pick - climate change, Russia sanctions, environmental regulations, continuation of the war in Yemen.
