Bristol Women's Voice is funded by Bristol City Council. That’s you, Bristol Council taxpayers! You are the “key source of income for their core work…to advance women's equality in the city”.

So their #InternationalWomensDay event yesterday at Bristol City Hall should have been all about women, shouldn’t it?

Wrong! 🧵Image BWV defines the word Woman to include anyone who says he is. There is no single-sex service in the city for women only. The Women of Wessex applied for a stall at the IWD event, but were turned down. We asked why. BWV only now accepts registered companies or charities. It’s a brand-new rule.

We can’t think why, unless we just aren’t womanning properly.Image

Saturday morning - time for a fun game of ‘which ones are banned by @bristolcouncil?’

The wise arbiters of offence in the Council House banned two of the following submissions from the public: A:
"…the gender critical movement has proved itself to be nothing more than a vengeful cult who go against the spirit of our city, denying the existence of a tiny sub-section of the population because of poisonous propaganda…These are people just trying to live their lives in peace, and suffer some of the most horrific abuse - disproportionately to boot - for no reason other than hatred and obsession. The moral panic so-called gender criticals are fomenting is a slippery slope towards further prejudice, as many online demagogues have proved time and time again with the expansion from TERF behaviour to antisemitism, homophobia, and white supremacy."Image

🧵

Last week two of our members launched legal proceedings in the High Court. They seek a judicial review of the decision by Bristol City Council to ban them both from City Hall for six months and to remove one of them from the remuneration committee.

@JournalismSEEN This follows a pre-action protocol letter issued in December, indicating the claimants’ intention to bring proceedings. The Council made clear its intention to resist the challenge, so the full claim has now been issued.

Yesterday, a few of our members attended a Community Chalk Mural Event in Bristol hosted by Bristol Women's Voice - a charity that receives grant funding and gifts in kind from @BristolCouncil

The event was advertised as being to express "our shared experiences, hopes and voices around women's safety on Bristol's street and public transport".

The invitation to women was to "bring your story, your message, and your imagination" and was "open to all ages".
