101 years ago today, the football association banned women playing football on any FA related grounds. Working class women had been playing football since 1915 in an effort to raise money for veterans and families devastated by war. 1/
The women, known as Munitionettes, played voluntarily before and after gruelling shifts in dangerous munitions factories, during WW1, when women were responsible for 85% of GDP. Some women were brilliant players and became celebrities in their area. 2/
