Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the Lennart Petrell of sports opinions.

Been asked a few times about goalies so thought I'd make a thread.

The result I value most is @EvolvingHockey 's Goals Saved Above Expected in all situations.

Its better than SV% imo as it give a bit of information about the quality of the shots faced.

It uses shot/location/type that you get from NHL game sheets, but not puck/player movement so its limited. Its still the best available publicly imo.

I "normalize" the result by making it "GSAx per 100 shot attempts against" to compare goalies on a level playing field. (2/

Thread:
Was asked to put together "easy to read" charts and tables of AHS's covid ICU data in Alberta over the last 120 days. Thought I'd share it here

First up ICU by vaccination status and condition/co-morbidity status
Its vaccine status driving ICU, not co-morbidities (1/6) 12-29 year olds in ICU by vaccine status over past 120 days in Alberta.

Even one shot here helps. (2/6)

Quick thread on why I think EDM will finish better than most models and pundits predict
1) Pundits underestimate how much playing with “meh” players can drag down even the best in the league. McDavid having “meh” help from Jan 1 on effected his results until Nuge got there (1/ Nuge w/ 97 to start will be huge for 97
2) McDavid was on a rehabbed knee all year and looked slower/tired by the last couple months. Fresh and healthy this year
3) Drai having his own line with reasonably good player in Yamamoto and Kahun gives EDM a good 2nd line. (2/

I've had an epiphany about 2 diverse groups of hockey fans who co-exist (but don't co-exist well).

1) Results are the only thing that matter (If I Ran The Team- IIRTT)

2) How the player makes me feel when I watch them matters a lot. (This Is My Team - TIMT)
(1/4) In the context of fandom both are real and relevant and neither trumps the other. That's important

"IIRTT" fans,(I think >50% of fans are Armchair GMs), they tend to have fun watching good teams, be belligerent with their views, & fuck you if you don't think the same way

A sad story in 4 parts:

As a young man in High School Bernard Gritowsky was fairly normal. (1/4) Then his friends offered him a dried plant known as "Mary Jane" to smoke..... after a while he "discovered himself" asked his friends to call him Mahna Mahna (2/4)
