"Hey I'm the guy from the county auction. I ended up buying the computer lots and I don't have any use for these IBM keyboards, so you can have them instead for the museum or whatever"

We are on a ROLL this week huh ImageImage We now have approximately 20 of these IBM model M 122 key keyboards. We do not need all of them. Some of them will be sold. Some of them are rubber domes and will become art pieces for the museum ☺️

I never thought I'd see the day, but we have a new friend, and a VERY important one at that!

Welcome to 1977, and welcome to the Altair 8800B-DM. This computer has been off for decades, so let's see if we can change that and bring back a legendary piece of computing history 🧡 ImageImageImageImage Thankfully, the internals look a lot nicer than the externals do. The computer is pretty loaded up too, though not with anything super interesting. We have 2 ram boards, seen at the bottom, the stock Altair turnkey board above that, a 3rd ram board, 2x floppy, and CPU above that ImageImage

Today on the bench, we've got an Xbox 360! This, however, isn't quite what you think it is 🧡 Image Hmmm ImageImage

New project thread y'all buckle up! We're going to start work on this Amiga 4000-040 revision D! There's so, so much wrong, so let's take it slow and attack it methodically! 🧡 Image I'm ignoring electrical parts right now as I don't have my setup made for soldering quite yet, so let's strip the computer down to the bones and give it a good cleaning. The main case itself is in B+ condition, with 90% of the plating intact, and only a small patch of actual rust Image

I have a new monitor. You will not recognize him by the end of this thread πŸ˜›

I will rebuild him. He will become stronger, faster, and better It's a Dell 1970FPt, released sometime in the late 2000s. It's a "next generation" TN panel that runs at a native resolution of 1280x1024. It's got DVI and VGA in, and features a USB 2.0 hub. What do I have in store for a boring 10 dollar 13 year old monitor?

Based on how this new generation of AMD CPUs shapes up later this year, I may be overhauling my main computer to update it. One thing though that's a certainty is that I'm making one of these LCD side panel things. They're just too cool not to, and they're cheap as hell It's also a really cheap way of getting a third monitor without it looking like crap, or going through and redoing my setup with a very expensive monitor to match the existing 2. Should be really helpful to have things like Discord or performance info shown there

Anyone got some cool little sounds to use as a startup sound for the Amiga? Maybe something relating to an old movie or a song sample or something? I don't wanna use like a Mac or Windows startup sound because that's lame I need the PS1 startup sound but... not the PS1 startup sound please

While we're waiting for the 040 accelerator to come in for the Amiga, let's boot up WinUAE to try and fix some of the more annoying issues the computer has at the moment. There's a few problems, but hopefully ones that are easy to fix 🧡 Image The first issue is that it's asking for a volume that I renamed. Should be a simple assignment change in the user-startup file Image

TIL about a really... bad ISA card. This is a Longshine EMS memory card model LCS-8661N, released some time in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It's a pretty typical ram card, but it's got some... strange aspects about it that make it ridiculously impractical and stupid Typically, cards like this were designed for 286 class systems, and featured at MOST 4MB of ram, with the average being around 1-2MB. Didn't really need much more than that for that kind of machine, so it wasn't important to have that much more capacity, but this one is different

How is it possible for me to go from feeling pretty good and motivated to complete apathy and misery in only a few minutes. There's just this cloud of confusion, fear, uncertainty, and hopelessness that washes over me I see the issues I have getting worse. I see the issues that I need to fix being ignored, and I see myself climbing higher and higher towards a point where I can't sustain it anymore, and then I'll be in freefall. How much further is it?

New drive came in. It was packed really well, but the label being torn is concerning. I think this might be a dead drive, but you never know until you try Mmmm yeah not happy sounds came out when moving the spindle by hand. Might be eating my words here on the reliability of these drives

Believe it or not, but I've never listened to Dark Side before. First listen through. Seems pretty good so far. I can definitely hear the Alan Parsons influence in here, which is always a good thing It's also very, very progressive for an early 70s album. Tons of synth stuff and whatnot, which is really neat from this era of music. I'm shocked at how popular this album is. The least popular song STILL has 55 million plays. That's unreal!

Yay I'm back home. Time to relax and write a 4 PAGE P APER BY FRIDAY HOLY NUTS.

Yes I am deliberately avoiding saying the word essa y and p aper because of the bots that looooooooove to try and scam you It has been over an hour and I've written zero (0) pages of this. Ugh I hate getting motivated to start working on something, especially if it's boring as hell, which this is. I spose I need to first try and understand the book I was supposed to read. Kind of a fundamental yanno

Have you thought about the future? Have you thought about what things may be like in 20 years? I have, and there's a BIG determiner that's currently being fought out in court!

Right to repair!

What is right to repair, why hasn't it been a problem, and why is it important? 🧡 Right to repair is based around the concept of ownership of the devices you have spent your money on. As devices have become more and more advanced with integrated electronics carrying greater and greater capabilities, some companies say that this changes ownership
