Prophetess Nongqawuse was born in 1841 at Centane in the Eastern Cape. Her parents died when she was still at younger age on the 8th frontier wars between (1850-1853). Her fathers name was uMhlanhla from the kreli tribe. She was raised by her uncle uMhlakaza,she is from Amamfene Clan names. Mhlakaza was the son of the councillor of Xhosa King Sarili ka Hintsa.
