1/ This is a heartwarming photo of me distributing toys to young children a few days ago in Turkiye. But this tweet is not about the toys, it’s about the awkward topic of charities and admin fees. Read on … 2/

1/Nice thread, and I agree with it to a certain level. However I believe its not as simplistic or binary and we need to have a frank and public discussion (especially amongst the students of knowledge and preachers in this land).
Theres lots of pros and cons regardless... 2/ Firstly, what group of 'living legends' are our reference? One of the biggest issues in the 90's was the rampant sectarianism of the N. American scene (much of it, btw, was a *direct* result of importing controversies oversees into this part of the world).

1/ Recently, there have been a number of tragic cases across the country regarding Muslim women who have been murdered by their partners. We need to actively work to counter this situation: 2/ Firstly: the cultural stigma behind divorce needs to addressed head on. Divorce is NOT bad in every case, and if a red line has been crossed, it might become the more Islamic option. Divorcees as well should not feel their marriage prospects have diminished.

1/ Significance of Arafah (thread)
- It is the Day that Allah chose to reveal one of the most blessed verses in the Quran, "Today, I have completed this religion for you, and perfected My favors upon you, and chosen Islam as you way of life" [Mā'idah; 3]. 2/It is a Day that Allah gives an oath by, and calls it a day that is 'witnessed', in the verse: وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ. Ibn Abbās said, "The shāhid is Friday, and the 'mashhūd' is the Day of Arafah."

1/ I ask all of you to take some time out of your day today and read this article from the BBC on the plight of the Uyghurs in China:
bbc.co.uk/news/extra/85q… 2/ Nowhere in the world is anything similar taking place: millions of people being jailed, tortured, kidnapped and/or killed simply because they are Muslims. 'Crimes' including reading the Quran in the 1980's, having a relative who is 'religious', or visiting a Muslim country.

Sarcasm is sometimes warranted!
A man came to the house of Huẓayfa b. Yamān (r), lifted the curtain, looked in, and said, "May I enter?"
Ḥuzayfa was sitting right there & angrily replied, "As for your eyes, they have already entered. It is your ass that has yet to enter!" It is, of course, completely forbidden to look into a private residence without permission, and there are aḥādith about the permissibility of physically harming someone who does so! The Quran itself commands us to seek permission before we enter into someone's house.

The recent events in Afghanistan in which tens of thousands of innocent civilians have been forced to flee for safety, and hundreds if not thousands have been killed as the forces of the Taliban battle the forces of the Kabul government is worrying to all.
Two brief comments: Firstly, regardless of one's sympathies in this conflict, this recapture by the Taliban demonstrates the sheer absurdity of US foreign policy. The US spent around 1000 billion dollars total, lost thousands of its soldiers and injured tens of thousands more ...

A Practical List of 7 Steps to Help Palestine:

1) Follow the news. Don't scroll past those difficult images and videos. Watching and listening and reading will bring those difficult realities home to us, and keep us even more motivated. 2) Don't trivialize the spiritual aspects that always accompany any suffering: du'a, prayer, charity, and a sense of unity and brotherhood. In these spiritual aspects lies our salvation in the next life.

1/ The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever practices medicine without having studied it shall be responsible [for any harm he causes]"
Hence, if a person gets involved in a field that he is not qualified for & ends up harming others, he shall be responsible, both morally & legally. 2/ We currently have a global pandemic raging; now that there is the potential for a vaccine, let the specialists speak about its pros and cons, & don't jump on any populist or conspiratorial bandwagon. Every field has its specialists, so verify who they are and listen to them.

Verse of the day: "Shayṭan promises you [nothing but] poverty, and he commands you to do immoral deeds. And Allah promises you forgiveness and plentiful bounties! Surely, Allah is All-Encompassing, Aware" [al-Baqarah: 268].
This verse has many benefits in it: 2/
- Shayṭān actually verbally promises you to be rich yet the Quran says he is promising poverty. He commands us to obtain wealth illegally, and to be stingy. Shayṭān lies when he tells us we will be rich - in fact we will be impoverished by obeying him.

1/ Not sure how many amongst you are following the news scandal on the @NYTimes reporter @rcallimachi. For years, she was reporting on a very sensationalist story of an alleged Canadian ISIS jihadist. Even while reading it my, alarm bells were going off... (cont.) 2/ There were too many bizarre details that fit the stereotypical narrative of the radical Muslim that the media so craves and in fact needs in order to validate its own paradigm. In other words, her story painted the quintessential caricature of a young Western radical jihadist

1/ Divorce is a rarely discussed topic; most people who find themselves in such a situation are not prepared. Everyone needs to educate him/herself about the Islamic procedures & etiquettes. Sadly, divorce typically brings out the worst in some people. It reveals the real 'you'.. 2/ In such an emotional state, what you do will speak volumes. Will you become vindictive? Does that pain that you feel blind you to the pain you now have the power to cause? Will you be mean/ nasty so that you feel better about yourself in getting some petty revenge? ...

1/ Beautiful du'a that the Prophet ﷺ taught his own daughter Fāṭima to recite in the morning and evening
"O Ḥayy O Qayyūm! I seek help through Your Mercy! Perfect all of my affairs, and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye" [Nisa'ī's al-Kabīr].
Some benefits: 2/-The Prophet ﷺ as a father would teach his children to say du'as & to be observant in their rituals.
- Du'as are always made more effective when we used Allah's Divine Names. In this du'a, the two names al-Ḥayy & al-Qayyūm are used, which are the combination in Ayāt al-Kursī.

1/ The responses of the families of the #ChristchurchShooting as they confront the vile murderer is awe-inspiring. Each and every one of them is filled with Imān & a pride for their faith! May Allah grant the martyrs Firdaws, and grant the families patience and reward.
Another... 2/...aspect that is worthy of comment is how varied the responses have been, and how our religion allows for all of those responses! Some have expressed utmost contempt and anger upon the murdered. Some have invoked Allah's curse! Some have said they will never forgive...

[1/5] Of the most neglected acts of worship in our faith is to actively help bring reconciliation between two people who are no longer on friendly terms. Obviously we ourselves should be on good terms with both parties and be in a position to help. [2/5] The Quran commands us to be active in bringing reconciliation between any groups of Muslims who aren't getting along; it allows & praises secret meetings by family/friends to discuss tactics on how to bring about reconciliation.

Saying 'Allah Akbar' is something that Muslims do constantly, yet few appreciate its profundity. The phrase intentionally has 'missing' grammatical parts to it, because is no restriction on any aspect of Allah, with respect to any of His creation...
facebook.com/yasir.qadhi/po… During these days, of the greatest & most blessed of deeds is the takbīr. It was the first dhikr to be commanded in the Quran; we begin our salat & adhān with it; it is the hallmark of Eid & said at every great occasion. Saying it brings courage & comfort, & reinvigorates faith.

Anyone who thinks that my (poor) choice of words in an interview with @mohammed_hijab in any way refers to the preservation of the Quran is grossly mistaken. The Quran has been, is, and always will be preserved. 2/ I believe the truth is always defensible, even if its awkward for some. When I criticized some Muslims for 'changing' the age of Aisha (r) without evidence, Islamophobes had a field trip. They released many vulgar videos using my name because I affirmed the Bukharī hadith.
