Hosea 11:1 and Matthew 2:15 — Did Matthew Misuse the Old Testament?
Matthew says Jesus fulfilled Hosea 11:1. But Hosea’s talking about Israel’s past, not the Messiah’s future. So… did Matthew mess up?

“Out of Egypt I called my son.” -Hosea 11:1
It’s a nostalgic look at Israel’s Exodus. God is pictured as a loving Father, and Israel as a rebellious son.
Now enter Matthew 2:15
“This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.’”
