🚨 Next week, Iowa's GOP Governor Kim Reynolds will deliver the Republican "response" to President Biden's State of the Union speech. I'm going to share some examples of her failed leadership in Iowa. Please RT for visibility.🧵
desmoinesregister.com/story/news/pol… One of the most egregious examples is Governor Reynolds attempts to have it both ways on the American Rescue Plan. She publicly opposed it but is happy to take credit for doling out federal dollars:

Breaking with decades of non-partisan redistricting tradition, today Iowa Republicans took a big step closer to rigging Iowa elections. The reasons given by Republicans today ignore Iowa law and demonstrate that there was no legitimate reason to reject this first map. This was a fair map drawn by the nonpartisan, independent commission. It met all the requirements laid out in state law. This is an outrageous use of political power to rig elections in their favor. We are in completely uncharted territory, due to unprecedented delays.

The next Republican we're planning to defeat next year is Republican Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver.

He (poorly) represents the city of Ankeny, which has been in the news a lot for the QAnon Republicans threatening the lives of school board members & to defund their schools .@AmberForIowa ran a great campaign against him in 2018 and nearly knocked him off, and since then the district has continued to trend more Democratic. At the same time, Jack Whitver has only become more extreme, embracing the fringe elements consuming the GOP.

State Legislatures are critical to the future of the Democratic Party. For decades, Republicans have heavily invested in local and state races. That's why Republicans control so many legislative chambers across the country, & why we're seeing a flood of terrible Republican policy -Mississippi's abortion ban
-Texas' abortion ban
-Georgia and Iowa's voter suppression laws
-Iowa's ban on mask mandates

All extreme policies passed by Republican trifecta governments - and all policies that impact folks outside of the states these laws were passed in.

We ask for recurring, monthly donations a lot. Let me tell you why they are so important, especially for the down ballot state legislative campaigns we support. secure.actblue.com/donate/zwseeds… We all agree on the need for more constant, positive communication with voters about our progressive values, as well as the need for year-round organizing to register voters and increase voter turnout. These both take significant investment.

Hi folks 👋

It's September 30, which means it's not just the end of the month, but the end of the Third Quarter. Hard to believe! That means today is one of the biggest fundraising deadlines of the year for us. (This is why your inbox is being barraged.) However, I got married last weekend, and tonight is date night for me and my wife (!) — so I am not going to be running my normal end-of-quarter Twitter campaign tonight. Instead, I'm turning things over to @AndySuchorski, the Executive Director of @SenateMajority.

Do Iowa Republicans believe requiring the polio vaccine for school age children is authoritarian? What about tetanus? Whooping cough? Hep B? Do those have an "authoritarian tone" too?

Well, for one thing, President Trump did not win an "Electoral College landslide" - he had the third smallest margin of victory since 1980. The only two smaller wins were both by George W. Bush. And for another, citing the president's 63M votes is a weird self-own considering Hillary got 3,000,000 more votes.

Friends, I'm excited to announce I am endorsing my friend @EWarren for President. Iowa friends, I hope you'll join me in her corner on caucus night.

@ewarren I’m all-in for Senator Warren because beating Trump isn’t enough. We need a president who will fix the corrupt, broken system that made the Trump Presidency possible and @ewarren has a plan for that:

After several legislative receptions tonight, on my way back to my hotel, I walked alongside a man who appeared to be homeless, pushing a bicycle with a deflated tire, towing a small cart filled with all his earthly possessions. It is currently -32F in Des Moines. He was on the other side of the street. We walked parallel to each other for about a block. In my mind, I was immediately wondering if he had somewhere to go, if he had a plan, if he knew how cold it was going to get tonight.

Take it from a former environmental engineering student — environmental racism is real, and this shouldn't be controversial. Here's an easy illustration of what this dynamic is and why it's a serious problem. Living near coal-fired power plants is bad for your health. (And this has nothing to do with climate change.) Burning coal releases all kinds of things that are bad for your lungs: heavy metals, coal ash, particulate matter. Inhaling this stuff creates real health problems.

"Neither the fanatics nor the faint-hearted are needed. And our duty as a Party is not to our Party alone, but to the nation and, indeed, to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power, but the preservation of peace and freedom." "So let us not be petty when our cause is so great. Let us not quarrel amongst ourselves when our Nation's future is at stake."

STUDENTS AND FELLOW YOUNG PEOPLE — I was a young activist for LGBTQ rights who helped lead a movement that overturned the Boy Scouts of America’s ban on LGBT members and leaders. Here’s what I learned. Some of this is bigger picture, some of this is practical advice. And needless to say, my fight was very different from the fight to end gun violence. Take or leave any of it. Here goes:

1/ Something I've heard repeatedly from my Trump-supporting friends is that President Trump is reversing the increase in the national debt that President Obama created.

This is just not true. 2/ The easiest way to know it isn't true is that in the next few months, the Republican-controlled Congress will vote to raise the national debt limit.

1/ Seven years ago today, I woke up early, put on a suit and tie, and went to my classes at the University of Iowa. I had a speech to give later that night in Des Moines. I had no idea that it would change my life forever. 2/ I was nervous all day, struggling to focus, reviewing in my head over and over the words I had written the night before. After class, I got in my Pontiac Grand Am and drove to Des Moines as a light snow fell.

IOWA — Remember that young man from Iowa who spoke to the Iowa legislature a few years ago about growing up with two moms? Hi. That was me — and today, I'm announcing my campaign to join the Iowa legislature. I hope you'll support our campaign.

crowdpac.com/campaigns/3785… I am running for Iowa Senate District 37, which is my home. It is where I grew up, where I went to high school, where I got my first job, and where I started my first business.

Something that basically nobody is reporting—Fusion GPS, the researchers, are the ones who approached Perkins Cole, not other way around. 2/ The timeline is basically this:

-still undisclosed GOP donor (my guess is the Mercers) hires Fusion GOP to research @realDonaldTrump.
