1/9 Dear @JohnTory

You met Angie Austin in the moss park overdose prevention site tent, 6 years ago. She was the first person you saw inject. She spoke to you about why she injected drugs & you stayed and listened to her. That moment changed your views. She didn't want to die. 2/9 She made a huge impact on you and you made sure our unsanctioned injection site could stay. She was a legend in the neighbourhoood. She had an impact on you and your policies - decisions you supported impacted her. During the pandemic she was living in a tent in moss park.

I think it's a good time to talk about how many women have died and were harmed by policies the Mayor supported. So while so many people are outraged that the Mayor had an affair with a younger staffer, maybe ask yourself where was your rage the last decade? "abuse of power comes as no surprise" - Jenny Holzer

The first week of December I found myself at the emergency department completely disassociated (for weeks at this point). Traumatic stress, witnessing of deaths, losing ppl I love, fighting for responses, I was completely injured. We are losing the ppl we support and a workforce. It’s not just in our work lives but in our personal lives- my friends have died, I tried to be a good support for people I call family who were struggling. And I too needed support. I’m grateful for my family, friends and colleagues who supported me through those hard months.

Liberal government introducing Bill C-22 today to amend the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Liberals holding on to the role of police and courts in people's lives and increase use of Conditional Sentence Orders Gov't is stating that the role of the amendments are being created because of the overrepresentation of Black and Indigenous people in prison. But this Act does not address the over policing of Black and Indigenous communities. Doesn't address the demands for defunding police

No experts I know are telling the Liberal government to expand Drug Treatment Courts. They are a failure and an expansion of the prison system. Forcing people in to an archaic, unregulated treatment system is not a solution. It doesn’t work and research shows they’re a failure Tomorrow the Liberals table a bill which I imagine is a goal to expand DTCs. We need an end to mandated drug treatment. We need an overhaul of the drug treatment system and experts evaluating its efficacy. ipolitics.ca/2021/02/17/lib…

"Someday soon, an enlightened society, will look at these names as victims of war crime. The enlightened society will regard the politicians, the judges, the police, the doctors, and the reporters who perpetuated this war as war criminals” Raffi Balian

I miss you Raffi, everyday Such an incredible person, mentor, friend the drug user activist world lost. So many amazing drug user activists have died..”nothing about us, without us” excepts it’s really “without us”. I love you Raffi

While many minds are being blown by the ineptitude of the CMOH let me take you on a “journey”.. it’s called the overdose crisis in Ontario

A thread..

#overdosecrisis Dr. David Williams was appointed Ontario's First-Ever Provincial “Overdose Coordinator” in 2016. The focus of the strategy was to look at pharmaceuticals despite ppl on the ground saying ppl are dying from heroin laced w/ fentanyl. And that de-prescribing would cause deaths.
