If 🇨🇦 took nation-to-nation relationships with Indigenous nations seriously, it would have ambassadors to each nation & recognize our sovereignty & legal orders as preceding Canada. Instead we have paternalistic ministerial bodies that assert Canadian sovereignty over us. 🇨🇦 already has a model for how to approach Indigenous sovereignty here — it acknowledges sovereignty of plural foreign nations+accords them the respect of ambassadors & respects their autonomy. Instead, we get gaslit with frameworks like ‘just find ethical space’ & ‘collaborate’.

I quit flying in 2018 as a response to being expected to burn excessive amounts of fossil fuels (which are arguably the weaponized remains of ancient relations) in order to further my career. And I’ve never looked back.

There are folks who have to fly — I don’t begrudge anyone who flies to be with family, or because kinship networks stretch over continents due to colonial imperial violence in diverse homelands. Collectively we are tasked with dismantling the colonial capitalism destroying earth.
