Upon closely studying the Bengali style pratimas of the Goddesses, particularly of Goddess Durga and Her forms, a subtle but interesting symbol caught my attention - the spider 🕷️ (the Urnanabha) placed between the forehead and nose of the Goddess.

While I've noticed tiny creatures featured in deities ornamentation, the spider on the face of the Goddess caught me off guard. It's unique and the placement of the spider on the Devi's face goes beyond ornamentation.

Bahnyutsava (a fire festival) has evolved over time and is celebrated as Myaara Pora in Bengal. Myaara means Bhera (sheep) & has roots in Sanskrit. Myaara Pora is offering the sheep/lamb (real or symbolic) to Agni. This practice is remnant of ancient Vedic yajna sacrifices.

As ASI celebrates 100 years of declaration of the discovery of the Harappan Civilization today, let us not forget the contribution of Rakhaldas Bandopadhyay, (popularly R.D. Banerji), a Bengali Hindu who was robbed of credit for Indus Valley Civilisation findings by Englishmen.
Image

R.D. Banerji was the first to excavate the Mohenjodaro. John Marshall, the director-general of Archaeological Survey of India from 1902 to 1928, stole the credit of R.D. Banerji. What is now regarded as the work of John Marshall, were originally the work of R.D. Banerji.

When we see a painting, we minutely examine it & try to understand the artist's thought behind it. We've heard a lot about Direct Action Day but how it traumatised people is still unknown. I'll share about an artist, a victim of DAD.
Why was he called "The Dreamer Of Darkness!" Image

Ganesh Pyne was one of the victims of Direct Action Day and was an intensely private person who had created his own world and his world often ran parallel to the world of reality in which he lived. His inner world was rooted in his childhood.

What's currently happening in Bangladesh needs immediate attention & GOI's intervention. It's very sad how our Shakti Peeths are being polluted by both internal & external forces. Now it's very strong & sacred teertha kshetra Chandranath Dham which has been captured by islamists.

Chandranath Hill, Sitakund of Chittagong is a very holy site as it's not only a Shakti Peeth but also the abode of Chandranath, Bhagavan Shiva Himself. Not only Bangladeshi Hindus but Hindus from every corner of this world should raise voice against the

Kaali-roopini Sita-

The Sages were worried seeing Sri Rama- the Lord Himself, in such condition. They started doing shanti path in distress. Janaki laughed seeing everything. When sages enquired reason behind laughter, She told that there is no glory in killing Ravana of Lanka.
Art by Arghyadeepta. Killing him is a joke. In the Pushkar Dveepa, there lives a Sahasramukhi Ravana who is thousand times stronger than the Ravana of Lanka. Killing the Sahasramukhi Ravana of the Pushkar Dveepa would be the real glory.

Image Finding the Sahasramukha Ravana rejoicing his stupendous feat, Mahakali Sita laughed ferociously in a bone chilling tone. She stepped down from the Pushpak vimaan with sword in Her one hand and a hollowed out skull in another.

We Bengalis don't claim Durga Puja.
Nobody can claim Gods. What makes Bengalis' Durga Puja special is our culture, our emotions, our way of worship. That pure bond we share with Ma. It is this state where the Supreme Goddess is worshipped as Mother & taken care of as a daughter.

Image
Image
Bengal celebrates Durga Puja literally as the festival of the homecoming of the dearest beloved daughter- Uma. Uma is not an ordinary daughter.. this shouldn't be forgotten. Our whole life revolves around this Puja. Bijoya Dashami is the saddest day for every Bengali.

He's the Madangopala of বিরহী (Birohi) Gopal Mandir, Nadia. Birahi comes from Sanskrit word Viraha. There are two very interesting stories behind the name "Birahi" of this village.
First, because of his separation from Radhika & second because Madangopal had no sister.

Initially, Madangopala was worshipped at this Mandir alone. After being alone for a long time, receiving Puja without Radhika, He got upset. Unhappy from separation, He gave swapnadesh & told that Radhika is lying at the ghat of Yamuna river flowing infront of Mandir.

The picture is based on the Kshirgram Shaktipeeth Jogadya who is the "Paatal Bhairavi," a Goddess worshipped by Mahiravan. I discussed the Mahiravan part earlier too but it needs special mention so wrote separately & have given this link in previous blog.
bhabatarinibangabhumi.home.blog/2023/06/15/the… Image The story of Mahiravan is not mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana but is mentioned in few regional Ramayana-s, one of those being the Krittibasi Ramayana & other one reference I've found in Ananda Ramayana. Please note that my writeup covers only the Krittibasi version of Ramayana.
