If the Prophet ﷺ wrote the Quran, how did he ﷺ know that early versions of the 7 sleepers story don't agree on the number of sleepers?

🔸Most Syriac accounts have 8 [2,3]
Keep in mind that Surat al-Kahf (#18 The Cave) was revealed in Mecca, where there were no Jewish or Christian communities.
So, who told the Prophet ﷺ that the different versions of the story report different number of sleepers?!
