A Brief History of Israel's Use of (Israeli) Human Shields. A 🧵
In 1919, the Zionist militia, HaShomer declared “the need to begin widespread settlement close to the existing boundary lines for the purpose of defending the country.” The idea was to establish new colonies in the border areas, to put civilians in harm’s way. Source: p.45 ⤵️

"There is no moral equivalence between Israel & Hamas."
This talking point has been regurgitated ad nauseam by Israel's supporters since the @IntlCrimCourt has begun the process of issuing arrest warrants for Israeli & Hamas leaders.
But is moral equivalency argument true? 🧵
International humanitarian law boils down to 3 principles:
1 No targeting civilians
2 No indiscriminate attacks, even if there are combatants nearby
3 No disproportionality: the incidental harm caused to civilians must not be excessive relative to the military advantage gained

The most popular form of Holocaust-denial seems to be the attempt to dispute the # of Jews murdered by the Nazis.
The most popular form of Israel's-genocide-in-Gaza denial seems to be the attempt to dispute the # of Palestinians murdered by Israel. A 🧵
Initially, the denial came from @POTUS himself, who said on Oct. 27 he had “no confidence in the number that the Palestinians are using,” even though the US, Israel, the UN & every major human rights organization agreed their numbers have historically been accurate.

May 15th is Nakba Day.
76 yrs ago, Zionist forces ethnically cleansed 750,000 Palestinians from their homes.
A key tactic to incentivize flight was mass murder.

Yuval Harari just published a piece on Zionism in the @washingtonpost. He argues:
"Nothing in this Zionist idea implies that Jews are superior to others, whether they are Greeks or Poles — or Palestinians." @harari_yuval
A short🧵.
Zionism was a ideology that said: let's build a Jewish state in a land that is 90% non-Jewish.
Until 1948, the "Zionist idea" was to buy land from Arabs & evict them. By 1931, 20,000 Palestinian Arab families had been evicted by Zionists.
That must be b/c the 'Zionist idea' says Jews & Palestinians are equal, that's why the Arab farmers had to be evicted, right? pflp-documents.org/documents/PFLP…

Israel has invaded Gaza 3 times in the past 68yrs (1956, 1967 & 2023) w/ the intention of imposing a military occupation over Gaza.
In all 3 cases, within weeks of the war's end, the Israeli government tried to find a way to ethnically cleanse its Palestinian inhabitants. A 🧵
In 1956, Israel invaded Gaza. PM David Ben-Gurion setup a committee to consider proposals for depopulating Gaza of its refugees.

It's strange so many liberal Zionists are angry that @netanyahu would so openly embrace @elonmusk despite his anti-Jewish tendencies.
It's strange b/c Zionists have long embraced anti-Jewish tendencies. In fact, many of Zionism's champions were deeply anti-Jewish.
A 🧵
In 1897, Theodor Herzl published a text, "Mauschel," a derogatory term for Jewish Germans connoting cheating & insincerity. Herzl believed Jews who opposed Zionism were "Mauschels," who he described as a “distortion of human character, something unspeakably low & repugnant."

Hamas has 3 co-founders
#1 Ibrahim Yazuri
Born in 1941 in Beit Dras, near Ashdod. On 21 May 1948, Israeli forces entered his village & indiscriminately slaughtered many women & children trying to flee the violence.
Yazuri survived.

Yazuri's family fled to Khan Yunis.
On 3 Nov 1956, Israeli tanks entered Khan Yunis to "eradicate" Palestinian militant resistance.
