Most organizations don't know how to operationalize IT.

This issue came up in a conference call today.

TL;DR: someone has spent months writing a PS script to poll network devices via SNMP and alert on them.

A 🧵 2/ 2 years ago, they experienced an outage with their IronPorts due to a "work queue" length. As part of the RCA, the team was asked, "what are you going to do to ensure this doesn't happen again?"

"Watch it, I guess," was the operations teams' reponse.

For the "COVID has a 99.9% survival" rate folks:

It's not just about "survival."

A thread. The mortality rate in some states is astronomically high, while in others it is relatively low. The impact of COVID, however, crosses political, racial, and economic boundaries (though some in certain groups are vastly disproportionally affected). Those already on the lower

One of the peds in the practice I take my kids to is a COVID-denier, saying it’s not that bad and only affects old people, so everyone is fine to go around. He’s filled a lot of heads locally here with a false understanding of how “herd immunity” works.

So, a thread: While I am not a medical professional (and none of this construed medical advice), herd immunity is a relatively simple concept that has been twisted by a political narrative. It’s also been co-opted by anti-vaxxers to defend their position of not being vaccinated.

Fun history fact for my hyper-conservative friends (if any of you havent unfollowed me by this point): The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a socialist minister, Francis Bellamy, in 1892. Francis Bellamy was a Christian socialist that believed capitalism was rooted in “the love of money,” which biblically speaking, is the root of all evil.

@AskPlayStation This is literally the worst support. Your phone support redirects online, and I'm trying to reinstate my account. I can't sign in, and when I talked to support, they said "we can't help you because the account used to start the chat is different". Image How am I supposed to "start the chat with the account that is locked out" if I can't log into the account? Riddle me that, Batman.

The “CDC 6% myth.”

A RANT. For the people in the back who keep posting the “CDC says only 6% of COVID deaths reported only coronavirus as the cause of death” and “everyone who died already had other underlying conditions,” thinking it means coronavirus isn’t deadly:

I'm finally getting around to writing my mother's obituary, and I came back to this thread for inspiration. Here's what I've ended up with (another thread):

Beverly Ellen Guilmette, mother and wife, passed away surrounded by family on June 8, 2020 at 9AM, a Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI, after a long battle with the complications of pulmonary fibrosis.

A thread about #AmericasFrontlineDoctors

Influenza A (which caused the 1918 flu) wasn't isolated until 1933 and a vaccine wasn't available to the general public until well into the 1940s. The vaccine went through trials on the US military. What makes this group of suspect doctors ("America's Frontline Doctors") think they've cured a virus that we didn't know existed until 8 months ago?
We haven't even had the virus long enough to know what residual effects are from having it. New information on risk conditions,

So, one of my friends started calculating how many face slaps it would take to raise a cloth mask on a face to a temperature necessary to deactivate COVID, and I refined it a bit further.

A thread.

Please use the information responsibly.

Per the WHO, the SARS-CoV-2 virus deactivates at approximately 132.8°F or 56°C. This temperature should be maintained for at least 15 minutes, per: who.int/csr/sars/survi…

After watching the first 2 seasons of Outlander, reading about the Holy Roman Empire and whitewashed Christianity in America, it’s safe to say that people rallying men to “fight for God on a holy mission” have long leveraged religion of others to fight for their twisted beliefs. When I say “Whitewashed Christianity in America,” I’m largely referring to the pseudo-historical books and texts like “The Light and the Glory” and “From Sea to Shining Sea” and revisionist history textbooks from Bob Jones University and Abeka Books.

In case you think SARS-CoV-2 is “just a virus that will pass,” keep this in mind: (a short, but meaningful thread):
- Chicken pox is caused by virus: varicella-zoster. It’s transferred by skin-to-skin contact, saliva, or via respiratory droplets. In adults, it causes shingles. Once you have it, it stays with you forever and can reactivate at any time. There is no cure, though there is a vaccine:
- Herpes is a virus. Oral ulcers are caused by human alphaherpesvirus 1 (HSV-1). Genital herpes are caused by human alphaherpesvirus (HSV-2). It’s mostly

This incredible work articulates our refusal to re-examine historical figures properly. It juxtaposes Farrakhan and von Braun who are reviled because of their flaws with Jefferson and Washington who are revered despite them.
politi.co/3eHzpTF via @politico The author’s premise is that we can’t rightfully determine what to do about a lot of things until we come to common understanding. We have a common understanding, for example, that anti-Semitism and Nazism are not just bad, but unequivocally evil.

Statues: a rant from someone who is sick of seeing stuff about them. Earlier, I got into a discussion with someone regarding why we name things such as buildings or create statues honoring military figures. Both customs are steeped in tradition, going back thousands of years.

In either case, I think the sun has set on naming buildings after those

I’m sick of the phrase “open the economy.” It’s a terrible grammar shortcut describing an state of businesses.

A rant. Economies are “open” or “closed” based on the perspective that their system that allows or disallows external interaction. For example, the economy in North Korea is typically a “closed” economy—not because they aren’t buying and selling stuff, but because they’re not doing so

I’m sitting here in the hospital listening to my mom tell stories about her my dad—truly the love of her life.

A thread of joy. One of the things she loves talking about is how generous my dad was. On his last day of life, they went on a date to McDonalds. She tells how a homeless man was standing there and everyone walked by. She entered the store. My dad followed a few moments later and asked her to get

People who think that the Iowa caucus clusterfuck is due to the DNC's attempt to rig the results through tech has never worked in software development. It's hard enough to get code to do simple tasks; complex tasks like subverting democracy takes more skill than they employed. In most orgs (unless you happen to be a software house building your own software), you're contracting others to do the work for you, though sometimes orgs go cheap because nepotism rules the land (from the highest office to getting your kid an internship in the mail room).
