I begrudgingly scaled back intro-level content on biological racism bc I was assured that everybody already understood it, so we no longer needed to teach about it, a month to 1 weeks then to 1 lecture. Then came The Rona, and clickbaits…like this

npr.org/sections/goats… I'm sorry, but I will testify in a court of law that, this is one of those most biologically essentialist arguments on Black people and African public health. This is peak racial science.

Recent paper highlights an often overlooked inefficiency in causal explanations of segregation. Publicly accessible, for now.

Statistical implications of endogeneity induced by residential segregation in small-area modelling of health inequities

tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… Argues that if you want to make inferences about racial health disparities at the individual-level, inequity models must control for area-level social factors (beyond that for racial composition).

Thank you @mclemoremr @RheaBoydMD @EdwinLindo @Lachelle_Dawn, there has a been a growing amount of research that uses the term "health inequities" without either knowing what it means or intentionally engaging it on its premise. 1/n Equity is about need not mere difference. We could get "equality" for decades and never close the health and wealth gaps ethnoracially marginalized people face. Bravemen's ARPH 2006 piece laid this out really clearly. 2/n doi.org/10.1146/annure…

1/n. This, right here, is why I teach. No other reason. If you think race is a control variable, your racial theory is a hair to the left of essentialists. You are not loss though. You can be saved, resurrected, and/or reborn. Here’s what you need to do: 2/n. Read the works of @DorothyERoberts (Fatal Invention), @TukufuZuberi (Thicker...), and Joseph Graves, Jr. (Emperor’s New Clothes) will pull you out of the biological racism matrix. Then, will get your theory game going in the right direction.

I might suggest: I bet, I actually bet, that if the AutoZones, the Targets, the Walgreens, the Well Fargos, the Krogers, the Mercedes Benzes would be on that frontline with us, your businesses would not be looted. 1/6 Instead of telling us how much our actions trouble you, telling us how our frustrations inconvenience you, your time, your pockets -- instead, join us, stand with us, fight for us, our lives, our bodies. The government is not afraid of us. 2/6
