What is the origin of the conflict?

The origin of the disagreement lies in differing views on which border demarcation to follow -- both have their origin in the colonial era.

(1/n) Mizoram stresses on an 1875 notification from the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873, which demarcated the hills from the plains and valleys in the North East. The hills were notified  “excluded areas” and it essentially restricted free travel. (2/n)
