Getting some queries this afternoon about what our (null) results on US statewide COVID vaccination incentives mean for @YourAlberta's announcement of $100 incentive for people who get vaccinated between now and Oct 14.
1/ First off, I would say that leading with "I wish we didn't have to do this, but this is not a time for moral judgments" is maybe not the savviest way to introduce the program. 🤷‍♀️

Do COVID vaccination incentives work?

We analyzed 24 different statewide incentives programs using diff-in-diff. Some lotteries, some guaranteed rewards. Some very large and some much smaller incentive amounts.

Pre-print up now @SSRN.

What did we find?

Basically: nothing. Null results.

Specifically: The 24 programs were associated with a (non-sig) decline in daily vaccination rates of 8.9 per 100,000 individuals (95% CI [-64.3,46.5]; p=0.75).

Thx @GovernorTomWolf & PA DOE for new guidance on safe school reopening.

But - 😳😱 - 16 requirements + 81 considerations for schools to wade through in making their plans!?

@michaelzlevy & I say: Focus on5⃣of them.

In @PhillyInquirer today.

Just like our household pods, & works on same principle: A small group of students + 1 teacher, stays separate from other pods. Limits the ability of the virus to spread through large group & eases contact tracing.

There's a big elephant in the room for high school seniors and college students that people aren't talking enough about:

Is there a realistic scenario in which the next academic year (2020-21) looks like business as usual?

A tweet rant. 1/n tl;dr:

My advice to high school seniors: Take a gap year.

My advice to current college students: Take a leave of absence, at least for the fall, preferably for the whole year.
