Now 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 is genocide denial — straight out of an official UN Human Rights Council publication: The Oct. 7 attacks “did not pose an existential threat to the State of Israel.” Image 1. Hamas itself made it halfway from Gaza to the West Bank, nearly cutting off a major Israeli city and much of southern Israel. Image

Happy to answer.

1. Our strategy of killing Hamas terrorists with precise munitions would not achieve the return of our hostages, was mostly ineffective in stopping regular missile attacks against civilians over the years, and was a total failure in preventing the Oct 7 attacks. 2. Civilian casualties, while every one is tragic, are inevitable in this war, which Hamas started. That said, the civilian casualty ratios are exceptionally low given that Hamas is embedded underground and in dense urban areas, and uses its own population as human shields.

A majority of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza:

support a return to armed confrontations and intifada, and

oppose a resumption of negotiations.

(PCPSR Mar. 2022) Several years ago, three innocent Jewish teenagers were kidnapped and murdered by Palestinian terrorists affiliated with Hamas.

The Macpherson principle does NOT imply that we should survey groups to determine if X, Y, or Z is racist against that group. Rather, it says authorities should tend to believe members of a group when they perceive racism, and investigate accordingly. The difference is especially acute viz. antisemitism because Jews do not experience antisemitism equally. Antisemitic street violence targets Jews with outward symbols of Jewishness. Threats against synagogues, day schools, and JCCs affect those who attend them.

It wasn't about where they thought antisemitism came from; it was about how antisemitism manifested empirically. Henry Ford proclaimed to the American public that the Jews were behind a communist threat. "Bolshevism is Jewish in its origin, its method, its personnel and
its purpose."

Excuse me, but Jews were an oppressed minority in the Muslim world for 1,300 years before the establishment of the State of Israel. Any narrative of Muslim-Jewish coexistence is only sensical as a contrast to the Jewish experience in Christian Europe. Jews in the Muslim world had it better than European Jewry, but they by no means enjoyed any sort of equality.

This ZOA-representing, outrageously racist, (inquirer.com/philly/news/br…) failed GOP congressional candidate insults the Jews murdered in Pittsburgh and blames Jews for antisemitism. Mort Klein retweeted an antizionist antisemite, who had in turn shared a video from a QAnon account.

busboys & poets previously hosted right-winger Philip Giraldi—who would later be fired from @amconmag for blaming American Jews for America’s wars—to talk about the nefariousness of AIPAC. he was joined by leftist Miko Peled.

this is what contemporary antisemitism looks like. Image we cannot be so allergic to the mere consideration of whether this is the latest incarnation of the Jewish Question. Image

By no human rights measure are Israel’s actions “one of the great moral challenges of our time.” @freedomhouse ranks 18 countries/territories worse than Gaza (where Israel is one of “multiple layers of interference” in Gazans’ political rights and civil liberties). Israel is ranked just outside of the top 1/3.

For the millennia after the loss of Jewish sovereignty, Jewish politics were the politics of dependency and Jewish security was characterized by precarity. Zionism sought an end to dependency and precarity. Independence and security would be won by the restoration of Jewish sovereignty.

THREAD: Palestinian refugees are treated as an exceptional case in the international refugee legal regime. They fall under @UNRWA, while all other refugees fall under UNHCR @Refugees. UNHCR’s mission is to find solutions that allow refugees to rebuild their lives, but not necessarily to return. UNHCR identifies three “durable solutions” for refugees: repatriation, integration in the host country, and resettlement in another country. unhcr.org/solutions.html

How frustratingly unimaginative. <thread> I mean, sure, ingenuity must be hard to come by when your ridiculous premises are that Israel is comparable to Nazi Germany and that Palestinian civil disobedience is invariably crushed by the IDF and all Palestinian activists are punished. Image
