There were so many things I loved about Matrix Resurections but the element that really got me was how courageously Lana W - famously an absolute innovator of film aesthetics - deliberately chose an anti-aesthetic to critique the modern world and to focus on intense emotion - - and then she goes and has the villain EXPLAIN that choice. Her approach felt super brave because it defies likability and is deeply cerebral but also asks you to abandon cynicism while watching the reboot of a major franchise. There’s a lot going on and it kinda rules
