I promised you all post gathering my thoughts on the Ferrari Luce and now I’ve had a couple of days to digest and think, plus several glasses of cold Tizer, here it is.

Let me say straight off that it’s bad, both objectively and subjectively. I’ll get into what’s wrong with ithe design but at the moment all I have are more questions than answers. A thread 1/n Ferrari is by far the most profitable per unit OEM on the planet, and their market cap is far beyond any of their competitors. Segio Marchionne famously said they would build one less car than they can sell. Managing access has proved extremely profitable and crucial in protecting the brand. Outsourcing the design of the Luce could be seen as an extension of this. 2/n

Due to the nature of how UK higher education works, Unis are run as a business. That means lots popular courses that produce grads far in excess of the realistic number of jobs available. This is mostly the creative disciplines, including of course car design. 2/n
