This is disappointing. The competing bill (sponsored by Heinrich in the Senate, and Soto and Gonzalez-Colon in the House) is a much better bill. This one is just designed to maintain the status quo indefinitely. The Statehood bill recognizes that a majority of PR voters voted for statehood in November in a non-binding referendum, and mandates a new, binding ballot question. PR voters would get the chance to vote yes or no to statehood, and then have it enacted immediately if yes wins.

I've been playing the Assassin's Creed: Ezio Collection (finished 2 and Brotherhood, have yet to restart Revelations), which is the first time I've replayed these games since they originally came out more than a decade ago now. They hold up pretty well. Renaissance Rome, Venice, Florence, and the Tuscan countryside make for exceptional locations to explore. That's always been my favorite part of this series -- bringing the art and architecture of these times and places to life.

When people talk about the impact of Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education, it often elides that that Supreme Court case bundled up SCOTUS challenges to segregated schools in 4 states and DC. One of those Supreme Court cases was Delaware's Belton v. Gephardt. As Senator McBride notes, it was the only one of the challenges where the lower court ordered desegregation before the case got to the Supreme Court.

Hi @PatToomey - did you miss before the election when Trump responded to a plot to kidnap, rape, & kill the Michigan governor (& bomb first responders) by saying "I mean, we'll have to see if it's a problem. People are entitled to say maybe it was a problem, maybe it wasn't"? Did you miss when he was asked to condemn the Proud Boys, a violent white supremacist group that actively participated in the attack on the Capitol, and responded by telling them to "stand by"?

There's been a lot of discussion lately about adding new states to the union. This is understandable, both because the Senate & the Electoral College have strongly Republican biases, but also because there are millions of US citizens who are denied representation & equal rights. Warning: this is a long thread, though I hope an interesting & informative one.

This is a subject I've long been interested in. So I wanted to say a few things about the idea. First, I support statehood generally; I support granting equality & representation to all.
