.@solana unicorns like @MagicEden @phantom @DeGodsNFT are going multichain. It’s bittersweet to watch. It would be awesome for them to 100% focus on @solana. But reality is that these projects want to conquer the world. But so does the @solana community!🧵 The goal is to onboard everyone in the world to self custody, and the path there is hard. These unicorns figured out product market fit in an insanely competitive market. They were built on solana because solana is the where the best products can be built.

1/ I said this on stage at Breakpoint just a few days ago – the builders on Solana are second to none, and the projects they're building can often only be built on Solana. 2/ All these network-level improvements, from Firedancer to local fee markets, continue to improve the resiliency of the network and make it an even better place for builders.

Allowing the honest majority to pick the root, would separate execution from fork choice such that fork picking validators can be blind to execution. 1/n Validators can sample for DA from verifiers and trust the proposed root. Assuming that at least one honest verifier will signal that the majority is posting invalid headers.

QUIC rollout update!
* Compute budget fee prioritization feature is turned on!
* 1.10.32 - upgrade to MB!
* RPC providers switch from UDP to quic (partial) <—— WE ARE HERE
* Wallets/users/bots start increasing prioritization fees for transactions (partial!)

* UDP is turned off Fees are live! On some days over 4% of fees collected are priority fees. The folks that are using them are Defi users, and they see a reliability improvement when using priority fees. It will still take some time for all the wallets to update.

this is a pile of exhausting fud people that latch on to the "solana counts votes as transactions" just have a deep misunderstanding of how the chain works and why. The runtime is so fast and optimized that it's possible and cheapest to simply submit votes as actual transactions.

What's left to do for solana to remove the remaining bottlenecks between users and hardware? A bunch of small incremental changes! (they will still take a ton of work to roll out) - Bankless Leaders
There is no reason for a block producer to execute transactions, they can pack blocks with a guess of the highest revenue txs. This will reduce latency between a client sending a TX to a block producer, and that TX streaming in turbine to the network.

Why did @solana choose ELF and memory protection with a dynamic loader for its runtime? Because what’s certain about the future is that devs will constantly needs new tools! Memory protection between programs means that devs don’t have to trust each other. The security guarantees are the same as Unix provides between processes, or Move between resources. Within this sandbox devs can add new languages or even new runtimes.

ELI5 solana fees:
Once all the features rollout, there will be fees. Does that mean the network will be expensive? No! 🧵

github.com/solana-labs/so… Imagine there is one light switch, a single bit or boolean that everyone wants to flip at the same time. The highest bidder gets to flip the switch. The price to flip that one switch has nothing to do with how fast it flips, or how many can be flipped at the same time.

Diet clients. Not quite light, and not quite full nodes but strictly better then trusting someone else’s rpc node or a supermajority signature. 🧵 Diet clients tell the user not to accept a supermajority confirmed fork because a minority validators are willing to burn their stake in the invalid fork.

light clients for everyone.
problem:
attacker wants to convince a light client of an invalid state transition or double spend
solution:
🧵 1. light client is configured with the current quorum.
2. light client discovers all the nodes in the network.
3. light client gets a confirmation that a tx is finalized at height X
4. light client samples N nodes for votes that confirm height X

ELI5: fee market on solana

blockspace is limited, users need to bid for it, but if blocks aren't saturated why would user fees go up? 🧵 Solana's runtime forces transactions to specify what parts of the state a transaction will read and what parts it will need to write too. Reads can overlap, any number of transactions can read the same sate.

A quick summary of the recent performance issues in the network.🧵 Liquidator bots started spamming the network, with 2m+ packets per second hitting a single node with mostly duplicate messages.

Solana is built for all2all communication. zkp, rollups, sharding, are not. They are good technologies, but they don’t provide any real time guarantees that information is synchronized around the world. 🧵 All2all is necessary to keep one giant censorship resistant global programmable order book in sync all around the world. You want a global price discovery engine, you need all2all.

1/n I am finally going to say it, @solana is an... UNIX killer!
