人間動物園の歴史

1800年代後半から1950年代まで、国際的に人間動物園が存在していた。
ヨーロッパからニューヨークまで、動物園や博物館には生きた展示物として有色人種がいた。

アフリカ人、アジア人、ラテンアメリカ人、そして先住民族たちだった。 有色人種の彼らは、捕らえられた故郷に近い人工的な場所で、服を着たり裸のまま展示されていた。

客は彼らを”エキゾチックアニマル”として撫でたり写真を撮ったりしていた。

1906年、NYのブロンクス動物園に”モンキーハウス”という展示があった。
