Asalamualaikum 🤗
Today I want to talk about disabilities. My sis @halalpixie asked me to do a simple thread like I normally do on here. I'm not gonna lie, I hesitated doing this thread because I was worried I'd make a mistake 😔
So, Bismillah.
Disability. A 🧵

The Bakoteh landfill (dumpsite) has negatively impacted peoples lives and will continue to affect their overall health if something is not done. The gas emissions, heavy metals and pollutions in the air makes the air quality very poor
My biggest concern and worry is the long term effects this exposure has on the overall health of the residents of Bakoteh and surrounding areas. This article shares some of the health problems that can arise. It’s a study carried out in SA.
My younger sis asked me today why I was interested in the drug problem in Gambia?
I visited tanka tanka twice volunteering with @forwardforyou and that experience was so sad and humbling for me! Because anyone of us can suffer from addiction 💔
Most of the patients there are suffering from some form of drug psychosis. Unfortunately tanka tanka is not equipped to medically take care of them. The people running it are honestly doing the best they can with their meager resources and professional know how.

I have seen a few posts about asthma on our Gambian TL and figured I’d make a thread on it.
Asthma cases in Gambia seems to be on the rise and my ignorant guess is that our poor environment has a lot to do with it. Our air quality is very poor in my opinion.
A thread.
Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow, swell and may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when you breathe out and shortness of breath.

Asalamualaikum.
Bismillah.
The conversation about tribalism on the TL has got me doing some research, asking myself questions and reflecting. Towards the latter end of the election campaign I saw us pointing fingers at one another on our lived experiences of tribalism. (1/15)
I started to ask myself, why different sides are feeling like the “victims” of tribalism? Is it becus we are all truly “victims” of a society that has mastered the art of “othering” anything we don’t understand or Belong to? Are we victims of “maslaha syndrome” where we say (2/15

“Having a baby is one of the most amazing, miraculous, and life-altering moments of life. Yet with all the focus on the baby, it can be easy to forget that your body has just undergone a very physical+emotional experience and that it takes a while to recover+feel “normal” again”
“Most new moms are unaware about the toll of pregnancy on the body and the process of postpartum recovery leaves a lot of moms surprised by how intensive and lengthy the healing process can be.”
Are you an expectant mom? This thread will be helpful in your preparation.
