If AI is so great for coding, where are the apps? @R_Dimm and I studied the Python Package index to find an "AI effect".

Here's where it is not, where it is, and thoughts on why.

WHERE AI IS NOT. There's no clear AI effect on Python _package creation_ since ChatGPT. Image What about package _release frequency_ — how often an existing package is updated per year?

No clear AI effect. The release frequency for the top 15,000 packages started increasing in 2019, well before the "ChatGPT era". Image

I built Sparky, an AI robot that lives in my house. He helps, he chats, he has opinions.

So much to say! 😀Here's one thing I learned tackling one challenge, which is making him feel like a *someone*, not just a chat dispenser.

Prompting to make Sparky "curious and independent-minded" sounds lovely but produced a pretty bland result.

The fix: give him *specific* interests. Suspension bridges. Ghost railway stations. His own antennas. This makes him feel much more alive.
