There’s a ton of folks in left politics, close to the reigns of power, who are so deeply traumatized by abuse that even though they know their party is a parody of itself, their self doubt and conditioned acceptance of poor treatment makes it impossible for them to do something. What is even worse is that these type of ‘go along to get along’ folks, who struggle with imposter syndrome and the notion that ‘this is just how politics is’ are the exact kind of people that political organizations use to gate keep their positions of influence.

Folks who claim to be Marxists should be aware of the fact that Karl Marx himself identified more as part of the bourgeoisie, than he did of the working class, and that’s okay.

You’re allowed to acknowledge you oppose a social system you were born into and greatly benefit from. Marx with his daughters and... There’s a whole lot of upper middle class white settlers who are liberal oriented bourgeoisie types, who may have less quality of life than their parents, but they still have generation wealth. Those people, you and me, are not working class. We are bourgeoisie, and that’s okay.

So, obviously it’s important to people who’ve lived in MTL long before I have, and longer than any of the people who’ve recently visited, not to put this city on a pedestal when things are absolutely declining as far as tenant rights and cost of living, this needs to be stated. / However, while like any major city, Montreal does have its problems, and those problems are getting worse and more complex, it’s extremely less stressful to live here than it was to live in Toronto. It’s all a matter of perspective.
