As our press conference wraps up, we’re going live here in the Senate Local Elections Committee as they hear the proposed gerrymander map from Senator McColley.

Chair Gavarone is noting that the committee will take a recess at 11:40 for Rules and Reference Committee. Chair Gavarone is again instituting a five minute testimony rule. This is simply not enough time to testify fully about the proposed map.

The 8am hearing of the House Government Oversight Committee with a *room change* to 114.

We also got warned by a Statehouse trooper that the statehouse doesn’t technically open until 8am. Perhaps someone should’ve told that to the House GOR committee? At today's hearing we will not only hear testimony on HB479 (the GOP proposed map), but also on the House Dems' proposed map (HB483).

The Senate Local Gov't and Elections hearing on both GOP- and Dem-proposed congressional maps.

This is the third hearing on each of the maps. Like last week, Chairwoman Gavarone is allowing each witness just 5 minutes to testify and all witnesses must submit their witness slips at least 24 hours in advance in order to testify.

Today, we saw Republicans revealed to be at the center of a staggering corruption scandal at the Statehouse. At the heart of the issue is that under gerrymandered maps, politicians are more beholden to extremists and lobbyists than they are to their voters.

Thread to follow. So what happened? Speaker Larry Householder and four lobbyists were arrested in a $60 million racketeering and bribery scandal surrounding the passage of controversial HB6 - a bill that gutted our clean energy standards and bailed out two failing nuclear plants.
