Regular reminder about “diversity” initiatives: they’re not great if all they’re doing is helping rich, middle class people from ethnic minorities access things previously dominated by rich, middle class white people. I’ve been held back more by growing up poor than being brown Rich brown people in particular are sometimes culturally and politically indistinguishable from rich white people. They’ve read the same books, gone to the same universities etc. and have very similar world views. Take a look at our government for example.

Read the replies to this tweet to see stories of people, like me, who started from positions of deprivation and disadvantage but ended up much better off. There’s no *good* reason why young people today can’t have the same opportunities. They don’t because of greed. We live in a society where we seem to have accepted the rich are entitled to get richer and the poor deserve to be poor. All your faves are problematic because they’re all rich people propping up the system.

I'm so glad that I finally managed to get it down last summer and that the book will be in shops on August 17th.
