When surveyors came to his Cherating house recently, Razali Awang thought his long struggle with the land office to own the land is finally over.

Instead, he was told that his house is in the way of the access road to the ECRL station, and needs to be demolished. Image Having cultivated the marshy swampland since the 1970s, Razali's application for the land has been repeatedly rejected on technicalities by the land office.

With no land title, Razali is only entitled to a token compensation, leaving him wondering how he could rebuild. ImageImage

A letter from Prince Damrong on behalf of the Siamese government to Sultan Terengganu informing him of the 1909 Bangkok Treaty where Siam relinquished its protection over the state, along with Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah.

(From Prof Kokoro Soseki, Universiti Thammasat) Image "The King of Siam is very sorry for this change... We hope that our friend will be patient as regards this misfortune and break-up... There is nothing more except our loving and kind regard... we hope that Trengganu will prosper, the welfare of which we can never forget."

Earlier I shared snippets from the Hansard of the first meeting of Malaya's first parliament in 1959 and after reading it in detail I find Kuala Terengganu Selatan MP Dato' Onn Jaafar's comment interesting. He pointed out that unlike the pre-Merdeka legislative council with only one representative from the opposition (Haji Ahmad Tuan Hussein, PMIP (PAS), Krian), the 1959 parliament is one-third opposition.

At the Economic Planning Unit in Putrajaya for @rafiziramli’s first presser as the Economic Affairs Minister Rafizi called for a presser because he didn’t want to do the “clock in” thing other ministers typically do. He added that he actually started working yesterday, on some OPEC-related matters.

Tips on not being cruel I hope. Let’s shed light on the actual conditions in our immigration detention depots, and let UNHCR access potential refugees there. They haven’t been able to since Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin revoked access in 2019. Here’s my article on an Indonesian NGO’s report stating that 149 undocumented immigrants died in Sabah immigration depots in a span of 18 months:

In the spirit of not amplifying hate speech, I deleted my earlier tweet about what Annuar Musa posted on Facebook. SCMP has a story on that if you need to read about it. I'm however amplifying the good work done by @faqchecklab on debunking misinformation, which was a great help in this case.

While the folks at the very top are still the same ‘ol old men, Malaysia’s political leadership is in transition.

While Syed Saddiq is a young man leading a young party, 56yo DAP is led by 45yo Anthony Loke, similar to Rafizi and KJ.

My report:

scmp.com/week-asia/poli… But does age matter? Could it translate to fresh, new ideas? Would Malaysia’s new young electorate care? Can it reinvigorate the rest who have been disillusioned?

My friend got a scholarship to the US under JPA. Talentcorp approached him with a job in KL after graduating, so he returned.

After a while, he got a letter from JPA suing him for 1m ringgit from his scholarship because he didn't 'report to them'. Apparently, Talentcorp does not communicate with JPA so they considered him absconding from his scholarship, all while he's at his office overlooking Dataran Merdeka, serving the country.

He now works in Singapore because he needs the Sing dollars to pay back that 1m ringgit.

I wonder why KLIA don’t publicise the fact that their trolleys is designed to go up the escalator. I remember that being a big deal when the airport first opened That’s the point of the front beam, and that fabric thing holding it up, so that bags don’t fall down when you go down escalator. The black rubber feet is there to grip the steps. Image

Apple Watch Series 8 has a temperature sensor and can tell women when they are ovulating. This is going to sell well. It can also detect when you are in a car crash and automatically call emergency services. Wonderful, could save lives.

Good morning from Mahkamah Jalan Duta. We are here today to hear the verdict into Rosmah Mansor’s three counts of corruption linked to some 1.25b ringgit Sarawak rural schools’ solar energy project. Yes I injured myself and might be high on painkillers. Haha

This is normal for convicts. They are brought into the courtroom through a closed inner walkway from the lockup downstairs. They are no longer allowed to use the public corridors.

The only people that can see them are those in the courtroom, and you can’t take photos inside. I'm not covering this hearing. Panjang lagi kes 1MDB ni. Baru saksi ke-34 out of some 50 yang akan dipanggil pendakwaan. Lepas tu pembelaan pulak hujah. If you are interested, check out The Edge punya live report her:

🇲🇾 Bendera Maruah

Tangan ini sentiasa sasa mengibar bendera negara,
setiap kata bagai kuntum berwarna indah bermaruah;
pesan amat syahdu sedang kerinduan terlalu kalbu
suasana begini meresap saraf menyanggah yang ragu.

Good morning from the Palace of Justice. After a three-day break, we are back to hear the final appeal of Najib Razak before the Federal Court.

The day is Tuesday, a day named after Tyr, the god of law and justice in Norse mythology. A lot happened over the last weekend and Monday. Najib shared a forlorn message about feeling betrayed and lonely, then he went and tempted divine wrath over his ‘sumpah laknat’ – his third, if I remember correctly – and that whole thing with Umno yesterday.

Good morning. Day 2 of the actual SRC final appeal, day 4 of actually being at this courthouse. We are in the middle point of this nine day stretch which will end next Friday, the 26th. Yesterday saw a dramatic… shall we say, stand-off, between the five judges and Najib’s defence, with the latter trying to remove himself from the equation and repeatedly denied.

Here’s my summary of what transpired:
