I made some pretty big changes to my wastewater visualizations today. I hope that these are more accessible and granular than what the @CDCgov has provided, all built on the data they (and Verily) provide.

The first big change is having SARS2 viral activity levels by state, region, and the country-as-a-whole. Each portion of this viz can be filtered by state(s) and date range. Available data begin near the apex of BA.1. I broke out the "South" and the "West" into smaller groups. timeseries graphs of sars2 viral activity by region and states within those regions, choropleth map of transmission on the most recent reporting date

I promised photos and adjustments for the doggie PM2.5 respirators I found on Temu:

A red and white Basenji wearing a PM2.5 respirator. The muzzle on the small was slightly large on Miss Bean, so I used the Aura N95 staple trick for smaller feminine faces to tighten the mask to her snoot. The masks have a nose wire, in case dogs with more narrow snoots need it molded. A staple about 1/2” from the base of the muzzle.

Wastewater Updates:

I edited the center value for wastewater concentration ranges to 25% of the average max value in any given 10-day period. I condensed multicounty facilities into their primary county, namely the county listed first in the NWSS dataset for a facility. I hunted down papers on coefficients for wastewater conversion into real-time cases and came up with log coefficients, but don’t feel confident about the linear conversion due to multiple factors (chronic infection, population, normalization, etc.).

Three years ago today, my family and I went into protective isolation because I have Common Variable Immune Deficiency (along with many other invisible and high-risk disabilities).

Today will mark the 14th time I’ve left isolation. 🧵 Last year, my beloved Mr Beau got very sick with leptospirosis. It almost killed him, but we did everything possible to save him and got very lucky.

Three days ago, Beau was romping around and doing zoomies. I figure he hurt himself because he squeaks when he gets up/down.

Miss Bean has been having some major itchies and chewing, so I had her tested for environmental and food allergies. 🧵 I expected that she would at least be allergic to something, probably turkey since she tends to get itchier after eating turkey.

I was not prepared for how many food and environmental allergies (224!!) afflicting my small Ma'am. Apparently she wants to be just like her dogmom.

I would like to have ALL my elected representatives behave like responsible adults please. 😒 Falls are no joke. My right knee is still a rainbow of colors from my fall back in January.

Dear University of Iowa,

Why do you engage in behavior that is discriminatory to your patients? Y’all are literally making it unsafe. Last week, I got a phone call from my immunology clinic at the hospital. They wanted to know when I was coming in for my next in-person appointment. My immunologist left the university over a year ago. I never saw her in-person once the pandemic started.

The rest of the country is far ahead of where Iowa is in the XBB wave. We are lagged by about 3 weeks. @AltTextUtil

My husband is now leaving our house because his current university mandates he teach in-person with few/no precautions to protect either himself or his immunocompromised wife. He will instead be risking my 72yo mother’s health because she’s lower risk for severe SARS2 than I am. The spring semester does not end until the middle of May, three and a half months from now. I will be completely alone, aside from my dogs, for the next 119 days.

This is what Iowa and the US demands of immunocompromised people who don’t want to die by eugenics.

My day-tipsy butt is going way out on a limb here:

Blue MAGA (aka Dark Brandon)
Red MAGA (Trump is king)

Both of these are bad. Differing levels of bad, sure.

Please, please. Hold our leaders to account, regardless of party affiliation. PLEASE FFS. Disabled people, elderly people, little-human people.
We are all being harmed disproportionately because everyone else refuses to help protect us.

Get out of the tribal mindset. Remember that ALL OF US are valuable, not just people who vote like you or look like you.
