I understand that you consider that there is in COV2 a sequence of nucleotides that matches a HERV-H sequence. All the SARS-r COV's, including SARS-COV-1, have a point mutated version of this sequence. @ydeigin The 100% match of 71nt is considered significant: so it is at some point a recombinat° of some COV with this RNA transcribed/human genome.

But since only COV2 matches 100%, would that not indicate that COV2 is the ancestral strain? since all others have mutated away?
