The article has quite an alarming tone but ultimately it appears that the OTI system and corresponding facial recognition haven't been deployed outside of DIA beyond small trials to see what's possible. Mixing the different agencies is really confusing. rnz.co.nz/news/national/… To be fair, it IS very confusing and complicated and we (the public) don't have all the information (a lot of this article is built on various OIAs over the last three years, most of which are e-mail chains). Not helped by agencies having to backtrack and change their stories.
