A few things to keep in mind while thinking about the #ForestRightsAct and the SC order effectively asking for the eviction of 1 million people.
1. The forest department is the largest land owning agency in the country. And that has historically been the case.
2. The forest department was not designed to conserve nature. Its colonial roots are based on a different relationship with nature entirely. Where the forest is a resource - trees for timber and animals for hunting.
