Benjamin Guy Horniman was born in 1873 in Sussex, England to a fairly well-off family. He started his journalism career writing for the Portsmouth Evening News and other English newspapers. In 1906, he arrived in Calcutta, India to join The Statesman as an Assistant Editor. (2/)
