🧵 Late to game, but some thoughts on WhiteHat Jr x BYJUs

tl;dr- Great outcome for the industry, company needs to be valued differently than other EdTech cos, huge outcome for founder & investors on very little money raised, BYJUs likely to do more M&As BYJUs acquired WhiteHat Jr for $300M in an all-cash transaction. This is great for the ecosystem and has generated returns for WhiteHat Jr's investors (Nexus, Omidyar & Owl Ventures). Congrats @pratikpoddar, Anup Gupta, @SiddharthTKMA, @pbbadri

🧵 Recapping Jio's AGM (non exhaustive)

First up was the Google investment announcement. And a couple of things about the investment were interesting to me. First up, Google invested about $4.5B for a 7.73% stake in Jio Platforms. (2/n) Google was able to invest in the co at roughly the same valuation at which Facebook invested in the company, which is noticeably lower than the PE funds/sovereign wealth funds who also invested.

This piece by @shuvi was probably one of my favorite reads of 2019 so decided to write a thread on "Things I built in 2019 that didn't work". I love tinkering with side projects and worked on 3 semi-complete projects (some code, some low/no-code).
linkedin.com/pulse/stuff-di… 1- A content delivery platform for WhatsApp (think @SubstackInc but consuming the content on WhatsApp vs email). A couple reasons why I think this would work:
- Indians love to consume content
- Indians prefer WhatsApp over Email
- WhatsApp (& SMS) have higher open rates.

Thread on #MilkTech

1/ An area of Indian startups that I have always been interested in is MilkTech and more specifically daily hyperlocal deliveries. Milk is a daily essential to a lot of Indians so it makes sense to purchase it every day. 2/ Also, a majority of the milk sold in India is sold in pouches and goes bad in 24-48 hours so consumers have to purchase it quite frequently (as opposed to milk in the US which is treated by UHT and has a significantly longer shelf life).
