Hi San Francisco!
I'm at City Hall today watching the Planning Commission hearing about our Housing Element rezoning. There is no vote today, BUT this IS the first formal public presentation of the proposed citywide rezoning plan!
Live tweet of what we're hearing 👇🏼
Some high points for context:
1⃣ SF has to pass a citywide rezoning plan that sets us up to build 82K new apartments in the next 8 years
2⃣ Mayor @LondonBreed issued an Executive Directive requiring SF Planning to present a proposal by the end of January (today is Feb 1!)

SF's Mayor London Breed just introduced what could be the most impactful & wide-spanning housing reforms of her 5 years in office to date.
If you get under the hood of (how to fix) (absurd) city practices, this is a very big deal.

It sounds like a kitchen sink, and it is, because so many of the city's barriers to building housing are really just a thousand layers of small bad things that amplify one another.
Untangling this mess requires peeling off all the broken shit, with a scalpel, layer by layer.

Key facts:
🗣️ SF's eastern waterfront is made of rubble held up by a ~150 year old underwater retaining wall, spanning from the Marina --> Mission Bay
💸It supports >$100bil in assets & annual economic activity
