It boggles the mind how this story about "the most wanted Saudi outside the kingdom" (initially broken by @MiddleEastEye in March), who's been living in exile in Canada since 2017, *has yet to be reported on by any Canadian news outlet.* Ottawa has long been close with MbN and his circle.

Letter from @stephenharper's Minister of Public Safety, Vic Toews, to Saad Al-Jabri, following up on their Feb 2013 meeting in the UAE.

When @cafreeland first met with her new Saudi counterpart (FM Al-Assaf, since replaced after less than a year), she was to assure him that granting asylum to Rahaf Mohammed (@rahaf84427714) was "not a reflection of our relationship with Saudi Arabia.” Interesting side note: an earlier version of the same briefing document released via ATI/FOI redacted the obsequious sentence

It has been eight months since Canada announced that it would halt the issuance of *new* arms export permits to Saudi Arabia, pending a broader "review" of weapons exports to the Kingdom. Of course, 2 months prior, the Saudis halted any new contracts w/Canada across the board... ...making Ottawa's suspension appear little more than a politically inexpensive fig leaf, especially as upwards of $1 billion worth of weapons have been shipped to Saudi Arabia from Canada in the meantime, under existing permits

Despite downgrading its position on Saudi Arabia in September, according to a November posting, Canada's @ExportDevCanada is considering financing a Saudi-Malaysian refinery and petrochemical joint venture
@wicary @paulvieira @rachaiello @CarmichaelKevin Amazing that this somehow has gone unreported to date: literally 3 days before @cafreeland's initial rift-causing tweet in August, @ExportDevCanada signed off on $100-200 million in financing for Saudi Arabia's 'G3 Canada' (former CWB) projects
