🤓 Google Sheets formulas every SEO should know 🤓

Let's go through the most common formulas you need to master to work quicker.

Most of them can also be used in Excel, but not all of them. 1. VLOOKUP

THE formula you have to master because it allows you to merge data from different tables. Very useful to combine Search Console and Analytics data, for instance.

You have to master it. Image

🛑 SEO tip: Never assume search intent 🛑

These three queries have the same search intent but, for some reason, Google thinks that "python playground" is different. Bing as well.

Should have I done it manually, I'd have created one URL to target these queries. Image Funny to see how a website is ranking on both (supposed) intents, with two versions of the same functionality.

While others are just present on a part of the demand.

Be smart and look at SERP data before taking decisions! Image

🛣️ How to create an efficient SEO roadmap 🛣️

SEO theory is relatively easy, but pushing changes into production is harder. How many ideas have you got? How many will be live?

Let me explain how I manage to define & plan an SEO roadmap with other teams! Image Foremost, it's important to keep track of all the ideas you have. A simple to-do list is enough.

A sort of brain dump to ensure that even if you can't implement them now, you never forget an idea that occurred to you. Image

🚦 Find cannibalization at scale using GSC 🚦

Keyword cannibalization means that you have more than one content ranking. It's often a situation you want to avoid.

Easy to spot when you check a couple of URLs, but how to handle thousands of URLs?

Let me explain! Image When you intend to spot a cannibalization, you can use an external tool such as @semrush.

Head to the Keyword Gap tool and introduce the two URLs you wish to compare.

Great if you don't have access to GSC data, for instance. Image

🕵️ How can you spy on a competitor's content strategy? 🕵️

Your strategy must never be a simple pale copy of what others are doing, but it's always a good idea to know what they are up to.

Let me show you, with a real example, how you can generate insights quickly. Image Let's assume we're working in the travel industry and one of our competitors is Skyscanner.

We want to understand what they are doing on their blog and generate some insights based on the data we have at our disposal. Image

🚨 New article: content rehydration and SEO 🚨

JavaScript SEO is not going away, and is often challenging.

If you want to know what is content hydration and how it can cause huge traffic drop, check my article or read the thread below

aeripret.com/content-rehydr… Image Content rehydration is a process that occurs when a website, built with a JavaScript framework, such as Angular or React, dynamically updates the content on a page without requiring a full-page refresh.

Why using rehydration instead of relying only on SSR? It is faster!

🔥 What you're not told about GSC data 🔥

Since 2020, I've used GSC more than ever. I thought I knew the tool before, but I was wrong. I summarized my findings here: aeripret.com/gsc-data/

As always, here comes the TL;DR if you don't want to leave Twitter. 1. Don't use the UI

We often use the UI because it's handy, but don't!

* It won't provide more than 1000 rows per report
* You can't apply more than one filter per dimension
* You can't resample data per week or month
* You can't display data for more than one dimension

⏰ How to troubleshoot a migration quickly? ⏰

Last week, I've been contacted by a client I used to work for in 2016 (!) to help them recover from a complicated migration they had done two weeks ago.

In such a case, speed is key. How can you spot main issues quickly? Even if a migration can fail for a lot of reasons, it's often tied to:

1. Redirections (not or improperly used)
2. Key content being removed
3. New platform having a lot of (new) issues

How can you speed up (dramatically) the analysis for the first two points?

📈 SQL for SEO 📈

Since I joined my current employer, I've been using extensively SQL in my daily tasks. A super power? No, a necessity to work efficiently.

Curious about what is SQL and how you can start using as well? Let me explain everything! 1/ What is SQL?

SQL is the main language used to manage & query databases. Cloud data warehouse (like Google BigQuery) rely on SQL.

💥 How to find redirects at scale? 💥

One of the main reasons a company decides to invest for the first time in SEO is because they had an horrendous migration.

Our first task: define & implement redirects. Time-consuming but necessary. Can't we speed up the process though? To explain the process, I'll use a real example. Some weeks ago, the french railway company website moved from oui.sncf to sncf-connect.com.

Redirections were implemented correctly but we'll asume that they weren't.

🐸 How to scrape content? 🐸

Today, I'll walk you through all free and paid options you have to extract content from a webpage.

Part of our job is to extract content to use it for our analysis. So it can be useful to know how to do it. If you want to extract data from one page only, you can use the following extension: chrome.google.com/webstore/detai…

Even with no Xpath knowledge, you can extract similar elements from a page.

💥 Extract Search Volume in Bulk 💥

I've created a simple application to extract search volume easily, using Keyword Surfer (free) or Semrush (paid).

share.streamlit.io/antoineeripret… (built with @streamlit)

I'll explain how it works in this thread.

cc @DataChaz Image First, indicate which source you'd like to use and the country your are interested in.

* If you choose Semrush, the extraction will cost you 10 credits per keyword.
* Not all countries are available in their APIs, therefore be sure to indicate one that is . Image

🚧 Paywalled content and SEO 🚧

Following @aleyda's advice, I'll start tweeting sometimes in English.

In this thread, I'll explain how to be SEO compliant if you have paywalled content, like the NYT for example. If you still don't know, paywalled content is a mecanism to prevent a user from reading a content without paying.

Newspapers often use it to monetize their audience. The NYT generated around 60% of its revenue thanks to its paywall (data from 2017).

🚍 Keyword research para tu web de viaje 🚍

¿⏳Cómo subir contenidos a WordPress a escala? ⏳

Image
