A 136-year old tradition and festival specific to Nagpur happens today. Let me take you through the story of Marbat and its connection with Britishers and epidemics. Image The black and yellow effigies are called piwli (yellow) and kaali (black) marbat. These effigies are taken on a 10-km procession through the lanes of Itwari and East Nagpur and then burnt. It is believed that with the burning of these effigies, all negativity is burnt away.

If you earn more than Rs.64,380 per month, you earn more than 95% of India.

That also means you hold more power than you think.

You can help someone from the bottom 10% with an amount as low as Rs.100

Here's how 👇🏻 Image Many farmers and rural entrepreneurs struggle to raise credit for their livelihoods. Even for an amount like Rs.10,000, they will never get a loan from a bank because they don't have a credit score.

This means they borrow from private moneylenders at 30-40 percent per annum.

📚 Books of 2023 📚

A thread of all the books I read in 2023. Please share your thoughts and recommendations. Here's to a year of reading and reading well 😊 So glad the first read of this year is the sequel to one of the best books I read lately - Less by Andrew Sean Greer. It was such a treat to meet Arthur Less, the protagonist, again. If you haven't, please read both Less and this warm, funny sequel ♥️😊✨ Image

How did cities keep time and how did it all change?

A 🧵 Some of you may know as trivia that Indian Standard Time is computed on the basis of 82.5 degrees East longitude from a clock tower in Mirzapur near Allahabad. The longitude of 82°5'E passing through Naini near Allahabad was chosen as the standard meridian for the whole country

TIL the iconic Air India Maharaja logo was based on Syed Wajid Ali - an industrialist from Pakistan. He was a good friend of Bobby Kooka who created the Maharaja. How fascinating. Image For everyone who wants to read more -
