India is gripped by a protein supplement fad these days, fueled by fickle fitness influencers on X, colonized in their minds, copying western fads with a phase latency.

Yes, protein deficiency is a real crisis in India among the poor and children. But that needs government programs and state policies, not protein hype on X from fitness influencers. It's not going to change diet of the poor or their children.

If you're a healthy adult already eating a good diet, ramping up protein via pricey supplements is often a waste to say the least. Sometimes harmful too in the long run.

The RDA for protein is just 0.8 grams per kg body weight (that's 56 g for a 70 kg avg Indian man). Much lesser for women. This can be easily met through traditional meals.

Pulses like moong dal pack 24 gms of protein per 100 g, and a typical thali delivers 16-25 gms of protein per meal from dhals, veggies, and grains. This is just for the vegetarions. Who also tend to take milk and dahi, comfortably exceeding RDA.

If you add an egg, or lean meat like chicken or fish, it will easily exceed 30gms a meal. Two meals like the latter for a healthy meat eater and two meals like the former veg thali for a healthy vegetarian with extra dahi and a cup of milk a day is good enough.

Excess protein intake, especially using hydrolyzed whey or processed ones, risks kidney strain, heart issues, and digestive problems, plus 70% of supplements are mislabeled and 14% contaminated. Even ICMR warns against them.

Folks say "stick to predictions" when I post these. Fine, hear it: This fad will fizzle as awareness grows, and India will reclaim our nutrient-rich traditional diets of pulses, veggies, organic milk, and free ranging lean meats soon.

BTW, I will say it again. If you really want to maximise protein from Yoghurt, hung Dahi (Chakka) made from buffalo milk is a great alternative instead of Greek yoghurt. Or just eat a lot more of plain Yoghurt till you hit whatever protein requirement you want with Dahi.

Don't listen to colonized brains programmed by foreign hearsay pushing you to eat "Greek Yoghurt" at 7x the price of normal Yoghurt, many times added with additives and sugars. Don't become like last gen losers who stopped taking that 1 tbsp ghee everyday and started using refined vegetable oils.

"But Bacteria culture is different in Greek Yoghurt" is another silly new argument of colonized brains promoting Greek yoghurt once it hits them it's nothing but hung greek dahi. Indian yoghurt cultures (also Bulgarian) seem to have best strains for longevity of life. Don't lose them. Indian bodybuilders in late 1800s and early 1900s. Protein as a macro nutrient was not even known. Bodybuilders had no idea of protein intake, had nothing called whey, and many Indian bodybuilders who were envy of the world were vegetarian brahmins eating traditional meals.
