money is the least interesting thing in the world

art is the most interesting thing in the world

a few thoughts on fungibility and time money is uninteresting - that’s a design requirement, not a normative claim

we all have different interests, and money is the tool we use to navigate these

when money is intrinsically uninteresting we can all get on to the good stuff of life

a few thoughts on the psychology of buying art, and why you should buy things you like art and money are powerful and emotionally charged subjects that have profound and lasting effects

it’s impossible to talk about the full range of possibilities, but we can generalize:

art you like ❤️‍🔥
art you don’t 🙈
value up 💎
value down 🪤

if you started in crypto full time four years ago you entered at the absolute top of the bubble

everyone I know who did this *and stuck around* is killing it today inb4 Image

good read on OpenSea by @benthompson and web3 vs web 2 giants

But I think he (and potentially OpenSea’s investors) are missing an important point

web2: eyeballs = value
web3: capital = value
stratechery.com/2022/opensea-r… in web2, the value from supply and demand relies on scale

lots of people means friends and groups and connection = network effects, eyeballs, demand

metrics like CPM and DAU drive business bc eyeballs are fungible

CPM: Cost Per Mille for advertising

DAU: Daily Active Users

three questions, three projects - how I’m thinking about long form generative art

🧵 these are my opinions, I am certain they are mostly wrong, what im interested in is asking the right questions

I came across this incredible piece by @tkasasagi while browsing "new" on foundation, and was immediately struck by it's beauty and depth

It's clearly an AI generated work, an area I haven't explored much yet, but it immediately grabbed my attention There is little else on her foundation, only two other NFTs and a link to Twitter

So I pop over to the bird site looking for OpenSea to see what else I can pick up

Instead I find her GitHub page

Autobahn - Arcus #10 by @RikOostenbroek

Mandatory listening open.spotify.com/track/7e2ExzCU… Image A brief thread on connections and how I came to purchase this

A few weeks ago Rik and I connected over an esoteric 20 min long song by edm pioneers Kraftwerk

It led me to explore his work more deeply, and I also noticed his name also kept coming up in interesting places

1/ On SHIB 🐕 and $GME, degeneracy vs nihilism, meme coins and maximalism, and of course how NFTs win 2/ Let’s start with nihilism so we can dispense with it. @kofinas has been arguing that crypto and STONKS is a nihilistic market. He gets at least part of the story right

1/ GM FRENS

Art deserves to be free

Artists deserve to be paid

A thread on tech, media, and the future of content 🧵 2/ How I think about the dynamics of tech / media industry over the past few decades:

Information is free to create, copy, and distribute

Therefore

content is basically infinite

Therefore

our brains are quickly overloaded

i only want to buy art that lifts me up, even if that means missing certain opportunities

my incentive as a collector, for profit or clout, is to drive attention to the work and to the artist that attention begins with myself

crypto has taught me that people identify strongly with the choices they've made, especially the profitable ones

if i collect something simply bc im early to a trend, that purchase will draw my attention to it and cause me value it nonetheless
