Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah achieved the Impossible with the new Kashmir policy. In my blog today, I have analysed the impact of this decision, and history of failed attempts on resolving the J&K issue. The J&K history of the past seven decades shows that the journey of this separate Status has been towards separatism and not integration. It created a separatist psyche. Pakistan was more than enthusiastic in trying to exploit the situation.

The government’s decision in relation to Article 370 is a monumental decision towards National integration. The decision of the government will help the people of J&K the Most. More investment, more industry, more private educational institutions, more jobs and more revenue.

India, a land of patriotic people with a few fringe contrarians. The fringe can be a disgruntled lot, getting disproportionate voice on electronic & social media, but it cannot win elections. This is the power of democracy. Majority bashers are discovering their religion with self-proclaimed title of a ‘proud Hindu’ or even a Punjabi Hindu Kshatriya. Today, even atheist will wear their religion & caste on their sleeves. Elections, after all, is a convenient season for all the neo-converts.

India has always taken pride in its independent judiciary. Judges decide cases which deal with life of the common man as also the most powerful commercial and political interests. A judge is not in a popularity race. He owes his commitment only to law, Justice and fairness. Complaints of the nature levelled against the CJI in the ordinary course are referred to the appropriate Committee. However, when the complainant distributes copies of her complaint to other puisne Judges & the media to sensationalise her allegations, it ceases to be routine.

Curtailing press freedom has been tradition of Nehru-Gandhi family. Indiraji’s passionate dislike for free media was well-known, she used to refer to India’s leading newspapers as the ‘monopoly press’. The Congress in 1960’s & 70’s experimented various misadventures with press. The latest being the Congress manifesto 2019 which plans to destroy Institutions
& help Terrorists. It promises legislations to curb monopolies & to bar cross media holdings to restrict free press. This will restrict simultaneous ownership of website, TV Channel & newspaper etc.

The original mistake, both on Kashmir and China, was committed by the same person. Pt. Nehru’s infamous letter to Chief Ministers’ dated August 2, 1955 states “Informally, suggestions have been made by the United States that China should be taken into the United Nations but not in the Security Council, & that India should take her place in the Security Council.
