Quite an interesting coincidence that I'm now reading Audre Lorde's fantastic essay written in 1978 - "The Use of the erotic : Erotic as power". It asks women to be in touch with the erotic power that lies within our deeply female and spiritual plane + The patriarchal society oppresses the erotic power within women, asking them to turn away from the erotic, considering the erotic in women only when it serves men in bedroom, and treating the women in charge of the erotic as inferior

In 2011, someone from Malayala Manorama called me to ask about cinema going habits of kerala students in Chennai. I talked to him sincerely and a few days later they published a story + I don't know if twisting is the right word. They maligned my tone and language and wrote some cringey s*it. Imagine Niram's Sona in the "madhurification-kaypology" scene talking about going to the cinema😖😖😖

Since there were many questions on the how:
0) The plan was to make chiffon cake that relies on the air trapped by meringue to rise
1) a little bit of yolk got mixed with whites- egg white did not form peaks-no meringue
2)Plan immediately changed to normal cake 3) But 7 eggs/1 cup of flour - not helping the science of baking.
More eggs - rubbery and tastes eggy

A bird’s-eye view at the different kinds of masculinity as depicted in Malayalam cinema. In the context of the rise of hegemonic toxic masculinity in the 90s with movies such as Devasuram or Narasimham + ImageImageImageImage there were the “chiri padangal” (as Jenny Rowena called it) where the heroes were totally different from the likes of Induchoodan. The success of chiri padangal also means that the two conflicting kinds of masculinities co-existed in the 90s and afterwards+

A detailed write-up about nepotism in Malayalam cinema industry by @neelkmenon. But one point I would like to add is the privilege star kids have in accessing opportunities
thenewsminute.com/article/nepoti… Star kids might not have it easy in box office because of the "discerning audience", but star kids do have it easy in getting opportunities and multiple chances at proving themselves than outsiders. They are part of the network already, while outsiders struggle for the same

Jayasoorya as Rajeev is the salt to a bland dish that is 'Sufiyum Sujathayum'. While the main characters drift away in a dimensionless world, Rajeev brings some life as a frustrated husband
(Thread/spoilers) Image The movie captivates us with its beautiful frames but it fails to show us why Sufi (Dev) and Sujatha (Aditi) are madly in love. Believe me, I'm all for the romance genre, but show me the romance and longing!

Moothon has its auteur Geethu Mohandas's finger prints all over. Geethu has cautiously managed Nivin Pauly's talent and charisma, like polishing a pearl, its iridescence rightfully guided by her.
(Thread/Spoilers) Nivin's rustic and darker facets are brought about as naturally as his delicate and romantic side, probably for the first time ever. The depth of the emotional journey between the two sides is never explicitly talked about, but left to the audience to fathom.

Mostly when women are passionate and vocal about something and have people listening to them, a misogynist would suddenly appear on the scene and call them "attention seeker". Similarly when a woman, having battled obstacles on her way, is successful in her work and is praised by people around her, a man who is frustrated at her sucess would want to ridicule her using backhanded compliments

10 days of free sink.
I hate to admit this, but the secret to free sink is washing plates as soon as it's used🤷
(Amma saying "I told ya so" in my head) It helped to focus on the end goal (clean sink free of plates) than the process (of washing). And obviously it's easier to wash 2 or 3 plates rather than a pile!
It's common sense I missed all this while.

Seriously who's spreading anxiety and panic around expats from UAE coming back to Kerala? All I hear from a certain person (whose major source of information is WhatsApp and FB) is "Oh expats will bring Corona" Obviously the govt will strictly screen them for symptoms and keep them in quarantine and take other necessary actions for protecting public health.
You saw the govt in action for about 2-3 months now!

Whoever has passed on #TooHotToHandle is missing some much needed entertainment in home isolation (it can also get you horny but what doesn't?) A bunch of first world horny models are kept in a luxury resort, but banned from having any sexual activity.. including masturbation.

Watched Varane Avashyamund and it was a pleasing experience to watch these two on screen😍😍
It was like wading through a messy room to grab an old journal you love. Image Not going to a full fledged narrative analysis now. I wished the movie focused on Shobana and Suresh Gopi, without DQ, Urvashi, KPAC Lalitha etc. Too many irrelevant people, irrelevant stories.

The most frustrating aspect of marriage as an institution is how it, for all practical purposes, worships the son-in-law but expects the daughter-in-law to be an obedient silent slave The son-in-law is always a "guest" at his wife's house. Well, the daughter-in-law is in a limbo - she would be forced to call her husband's house as her home, but it is never actually her home.

I watched Nivin Pauly starrer Mikhael, and I have questions.
(btw, my exact reaction after watching the movie👇)

(Spoiler Alert and all) Q 1 : What was the Editor/Director smoking during post production?
The order of past/present/three days before present/a week after present gave me a headache 😤
