The events unfolding in Ocala are horrifying, but even moreso, because it's tied to some personal experiences

I was on a mostly Black organizing team in Ocala over a decade ago and I remember one day we all discussed how deeply we felt the racism in the area (1/ I grew up in Southern Virginia (in the 90s), I was on a team of Black people who were from Boston, Cleveland, Georgia. So we'd SEEN and experienced our share of racism or specifically anti-Blackness

But what we experienced was enough for us to all just pause to take note of it
