Today was my last day working at the Gov of Alberta. Here are a few lessons from my experience: 1. Bureaucrats are not the enemy. They want to engage. They want to learn. They want to do better. They are fighting against demoralization, dehumanization, & objectification.
2. Don't believe politicians when they talk about valuing evidence- based decision-making. In reality, they force public servants to perform "decision-based evidence making." Or, they ignore evidence all together.
