Have you ever been to Temescal Canyon? It's covered in chaparral that needs fire (naturally generated by lightening) to regenerate. Indigenous peoples knew this and lived in balance. Settlers, focused on control, turned it into Pacific Palisades and built homes in a carpet bomb.
