RESTORATION UPDATE AT 12:30 p.m.:
We continue to restore power to more people as the situation improves.
⚡Currently ~55,000 customers without power
⚡We continue to prioritize the customers who have been out the longest as well as the largest cluster of outages.
(1/4) ⚡We’re energizing in segments, which takes time. Sometimes the last section will trip open due to a surge in energy use when we reenergize a circuit. Customers might see flickering lights, etc. while crews are working on this. Frozen air switches also slow the process. (2/4)

⚡We are prioritizing customers who have been without power the longest.
(1/4) ⚡However, this power will NOT stay on indefinitely due to anticipated grid conditions continuing.
⚡Once restored circuits stabilize + "cold load pickup" is no longer present + if enough ERCOT resources are available, we hope to begin outage rotations on these 16 circuits.(2/4)

EMERGENCY OUTAGE UPDATE at 12:30 p.m.:
While @ERCOT_ISO says conditions are improving, we want customers to know this a dynamic situation + conditions are changing throughout the day.
⚡Customers should be prepared to not have power through Tuesday night and possibly longer. 1/4 ⚡Why are we not rotating outages? All circuits that do not have pre-identified critical load are a part of the emergency outages. We can't drop any additional load on other circuits to go and rotate through. 🌨️With more weather on the way, (2/4)

ROTATING OUTAGE UPDATE at 7:15 a.m.:
Austin Energy has shed load on all available circuits that do not include critical load. This has impacted our ability to rotate outages among customers. Electric load must be reduced in order to fully restore service across the ERCOT grid.1/5 ⚡If you have power, please try to help the grid by reducing your energy use, your heating being a high-energy user!

🔊We know customers are wondering how rotating outages work and which areas are on the rotation list. Here is some more info! (2/5)

ROTATING OUTAGE UPDATE at 5:40 a.m.: Due to the severity of weather + condition of the electric grid, rotating outages in our area are lasting longer than the expected duration. To serve critical loads + protect the overall reliability of the grid, customers experiencing (1/4) an ERCOT-directed outage will remain out until conditions improve. ‼️Conservation is still needed by those who have power -- especially as you're waking up this morning‼️
Customers are urged to keep electric use to only what is essential for heating and safety. (2/4)

⚠️Rotating outages are starting! ⚠️
ERCOT has declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 3. Austin Energy, along with utilities across the state, have been instructed to begin rotating outages because there is not enough power available to keep up with consumer demand. Circuits are chosen at random for rotating outages, excluding all critical customers that meet the criteria for protecting life safety, such as hospitals and emergency services.

Rotating outages typically last 10-45 minutes before it moves to another area.

👀 at the ice our crews are dealing with.
Ice buildup adds to the overall weight of a powerline or tree limb – half an inch of ice can add up to 500 lbs. to a power line, causing the line to break + cause an outage. (1/3) ice on power lines Feb. 11 🌳Ice also adds additional weight to tree limbs
🌬️Ice buildup on lines also creates situations where the powerlines react more to wind gusts, which could snap lines.
Ice building also occurs on electrical devices or switches on poles, which impacts our equipment ops. (2/3)
