What climate change we’re already locked in for will necessitate a complete reshuffling of humanity. Billions of people are now living in places that will either be underwater or too hot to survive in the coming decades. We don’t have long—we MUST change how migrants are treated. Earth is home to us all. The carbon emissions of the Global North are responsible for the rising waters & temperatures that will force many in the Global South to relocate. Economic, military & environmental devastation from imperialism and neocolonialism are already doing this.

The US and Europe decimate countries in the Global South through economic sanctions, the funneling of weapons, climate change from carbon pollution and environmental destruction from resource extraction—then let refugees die at sea or in the desert, or else violently deport them. The anti-immigrant backlash in the US and Europe is ushering open fascism back into the political mainstream—but it’s important to recognize that fascism is already here, and has been for some time. If we truly wanted to stem migration, we would stop ruining people’s homes!

Another mass grave has been found in Khan Younis outside of Nasser Hospital. 180 bodies have been found so far, shrouded in plastic with Hebrew writing, many of their identities unknown. The IOF withdrew from Khan Younis on April 7th and many mass graves have been found since.

Even a single mass grave suggests an unspeakable horror occurred there. How many dozens or hundreds of such graves are in Gaza today? How many more are yet to be discovered? The full weight of this genocide will not be known for many years, if ever.

Making students homeless and without healthcare the same day, destroying their belongings, banning them from campus, having them arrested for trespassing—this institution has far too much power to do harm to the students for whose safety it’s responsible. If you’re wondering about the context of this, I spoke with one of the student organizers last week:

Criticizing the “two-party system/duopoly” is a red herring mistaking effect for cause. We live, first and foremost, under the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. If it suited capitalists to have three parties, or one party, or no parties, they would have it! That’s not the problem. The problem is capital and US imperialism protecting its interests. Both parties participate in this, but so would third parties! So it’s not about “let’s get more competitive parties,” it’s “let’s overthrow capitalism and US imperialism.” Stop thinking inside electoral politics!

I want to summarize an Al Jazeera report by @osamabinjavaid on conditions in Israeli prisons. The quotes are from released Palestinian prisoners: “The conditions inside Israeli prisons are tragic in the full sense of the word. Not a day passes without assault, oppression and… …humiliation. If one says the call to prayer, the prison guards storm the cell and start beating everyone inside. The food is unfit for humans. One rice dish is for eight detainees to share in a cell. I’ve been in this uniform for more than 50 days. Since October the 7th, none…

I’ve seen a lot of people trying to throw wet blankets on people’s expressions of hope by pointing to the mass protests against the US wars against Iraq & Vietnam. I think this is different in a few ways but I also want to say: we might never know the real impact of the protests! They’re obviously useful and needed for several reasons: they show people that it is not a fringe position, politicians that there will be political costs & unrest, and Palestinians that they have the support of the world’s people. They’re also practice for more radical action.

In this case, the intent by Israeli leaders has been so explicitly stated and publicly stated—by the Prime Minister, by the President, by senior cabinet ministers, by military leaders—that that is an easy…”

Just saw an Al Jazeera segment on a 14-year-old Palestinian girl named Tuleen who still hasn’t recovered from an attack by an Israeli settler who rammed her and her best friend Inas with his car on a crosswalk when they were both 4, killing Inas in front of her. In the hospital… …recovering for a year, she met Atiyah there, a boy from Gaza who’d been shot in the back during the 2014 attack on Gaza. They became friends. Atiyah was killed in an airstrike on the 3rd day of the current bombardment. “I don’t like to have new friends. I can’t anymore. I’ve…

Watching a documentary about the Great March of Return, wherein Palestinians peacefully approached the Gaza border fence each Friday from March 2018 to December 2019. 223 were killed, 9,204 injured. There’s a lot more that can be said about the Hirschfeld Institute. Our history must be taught and remembered as fascists continue trying to erase us. Inscribed on its walls was the phrase “per scientiam ad justitiam”: “through science to justice,” Hirschfeld’s personal motto. A quote-tweet mentions the extraordinary fact that many queer people survived the Holocaust only to be thrown in prison by Allied authorities at the end of WWII—they were considered criminals, after all. In West Germany, 100,000 gay men were arrested between 1945-69.

Almost everyone in the US has seen these photos at some point: Nazi book burnings, burnt into our national psyche as the quintessential expression of fascist tyranny. TERFs and transphobic “Marxists” aren’t difficult to understand historically if you know anything about the history of fascism, which has always appropriated the language of leftist radicals to appeal to as many people as possible with the false promise of reaction-as-revolution. Mussolini was a socialist before he was a fascist, and the Nazis had a “left”-leaning element which was promptly liquidated as soon as they became powerful enough to do without them. They don’t care what they have to say to gain support; once they’re in power, it doesn’t matter.

The most helpful thing I’ve done for my mental health has been trying to treat myself like I’d treat a friend, to give myself the same benefit of the doubt, the same encouragement, the same pride in my accomplishments. Being nice to others comes naturally so... turn that inward. I say this to patients all the time when they’re beating themselves up. “What would you say to a close friend who’s going through the same thing? I bet you’d support them and wouldn’t think less of them because of it.” Almost always helps. Being a friend to yourself is crucial.

I’m been feeling so great and fulfilled the last few weeks, I finally feel like I’m living my life now instead of waiting for it to start. Everything is exciting and new but also doable and my anxieties have all but disappeared. I’m so grateful for the pretty amazing life I have. I’ve come out of depressive episodes before, this isn’t that. It’s something else and it feels like it’s here to stay because my self-concept is so different and I’m not going to forget how to think of myself in this way. My efforts at improving my mental health finally paid off.

Political debates usually bore me now because most mainstream political issues are just clear-cut moral decisions about what and who we choose to value, so people on the other side of the issue tend either to be too uninformed or too morally bankrupt to be worth talking to. I know people are still learning and that’s okay but they can hear about why it’s bad to kill people from someone with a little more patience.

My spirituality is mostly just the belief that we really won the cosmic lottery to get to experience consciousness in a universe filled with so many fascinating things and one way we express our appreciation for the world is by soaking it in as much as we can while we’re alive. Pessimistic philosophies are so repugnant to me. Denigrating life is the opposite of what philosophy should be. There’s plenty to be happy about without making stuff up lol.

The Democrats need you to believe they’re feckless and incompetent because otherwise people would see they actually don’t want to do any of the shit they’re not doing for us. When they want to do something they do it. When Democrat after Democrat wins and nothing changes they have to convince us that their ideals are just being hindered by other political forces so that we don’t hold them accountable for how they actually govern.

If someone breaks into your house and tries to murder you, and then when you fight back has reason to fear for their life, they’re not then allowed to kill you in “self-defense”—their intention to kill you relinquishes their right to protect themselves at the cost of your life. In other words, only one of two parties ever has the right to kill in self-defense, and that’s the first party to have legitimate reason to fear for their life if the other lives. The US military is a constant threat to the entire world.
