@GaryMarcus@NautilusMag Spot-on critique. Symbols are obviously needed, but the question remains: How does symbolic processing emerge in a radically distributed physical system with a non-von Neumann architecture?
@GaryMarcus@NautilusMag I think that our attempt to engineer symbolic - and even neurosymbolic - systems top-down will remain to clunky to ever generalize to AGI, though they may work very well on specific applications - just like deep learning!
